crrrrrrrrraaaaaappppppppp - RESULT!!

If its only one charge give them a call and tell them you have been really loyal and you would like that money returned to you in good will...

I was lucky enough to claim £500 in bank charges HOWEVER atm there is a massive court case which will rule whether these bank charges will be legal once and for all...

I just accept this as what banks are like- it's annoying that they let you go over though. I only have a hole in the wall card, no debit card and nothing going directly out of the account, that way there's no possibility of going over.

They will probably let you pay it off in very small amounts if you say that's all you can manage. And maybe they'll let you off :)

Definitely check out that link to the money saving expert website. The guy is called Martin Lewis and is brill. He's on the radio and tv quite a lot.

Anyway, in a nutshell, it is unlawful for the bank to charge you £28 for going £2 overdrawn. The charges they make have to be proportionate to the cost of recovering money. It does not cost £28 to send an automated letter. With paper, envelope and postage £1 is more realistic.

I think on that website there is a template letter for people to use in your position.

I would write to say what I put in previous paragraph, put money into account to get back in to credit, and offer to pay £1 to cover bank's costs!Maybe enclose chq for £1!!!

Good luck hun!

i have had bank charges this month too  good old retail thearapy  but apparently there is a court case going on just now withh most banks about the amounts they charge for being overdrawn so there is a hold put on all bank charge refunds until the case is ended, but the buggers will still take them off :x but im not sure if this is just scotland or all of uk

Mine did it to me last week so I rang them and told them they were breaking the law charging me and they soon credited it me the £35 they took

xx

got a letter this morning, my "complaint" has been forwarded to the relevant department! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Make sure that's not just a delaying tactic - they're good at saying things like that to fob you off!

You need to be doing something sooner rahter tan later or it will end up spiraling and getting to a silly stage. Try calling like you say or maybe pop into your local branch and see what they have to say?

I'd try your local branch first. Good luck

My good grief....thats highway robbery.... Our bank calls us first to ask if we realise that we have gone over....then either extends our overdraft a bit or charges stupid amounts of interest for as long as we have the overdraft,....

But 28 quid for being 2 quid over drawn....thats just barmy!!!!!

aren't you from the u.k squg? if not then where are you from? :)
