im a pregnant student lmfao with no money

      Thats LEGAL in the UK....?????????????????????'

My good grief....thats highway robbery.... Our bank calls us first to ask if we realise that we have gone over....then either extends our overdraft a bit or charges stupid amounts of interest for as long as we have the overdraft,....

But 28 quid for being 2 quid over drawn....thats just barmy!!!!!

what you should do is write a letter explaining that you thought you had no overdraft, accidently went overdrawn by 2 pounds which it shouldnt have let you do if you havent got an authorised overdraft and say that you cannot afford to pay the charges.
the manager has the authority to write it off for you.

how petty are banks honestly!!!

yea my bank i didnt have overdraft in there and could go over in there. they let me off numerous times but it got to a stage where they wrote to me and then started charging me every time i went over each day if i didnt put it back in credit. while pregnant i was £90 with charges, was mainly charges over the days so i went into the bank and got chatting with em and they dropped £20 off when i was pregnant and they said thats all they could do. i now have an overdraft in there so i dont get charged £30 a day.

just phone up and pleed stu[idity, tell them you didnt know you did it and get upset by it all, it alway works, our council were trying to charge us 700 pounds, being emotional sorted it

thanks everyone... ill let you all know how it goes when i eventually hear off them again!

ok this is what ive said...

To whom it may concern,

I was wondering if you could help me. I got a statement online today for this account, informing me that I have gone overdrawn by £2.03, and have been charged £28.00 which I have to pay by 31st October.
The thing is, I wasn't aware of this, and didn't think I would be able to use my debit card in a transaction if there wasn't enough money in my account.
I am 20 weeks pregnant and I am also a full time college student so I am not on a regular wage, and if you look back through my previous statements, you will see that no regular wage has been deposited into this account since July 2006.
And since then there has only been an occasional £30 payment from college which is used on college equipments and transport.
I will be unable to pay the full £28.00 at once, so would it be possible to pay so much a month, as i need all the money I can at the moment, to get ready for the new baby and to continue at college.
If you can help it will be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
(Signed name!!)

does that sound ok??

yea thats fine kimbo...its daft isnt it...mine did it to me once when i was 15 (which theyre not allowed to do, but i didnt know) and it was for 41p

Don't beg them to let you pay it off bit by bit! Tell them that this charge is UNLAWFULL!! Loads of banks have been threatened with court action lately over these extortianate charges and most people have been refunded in full. Some have claimed back charges dating back 6 years resulting in thousands of pounds being paid back.

Don't stand for it Kim!

Yeah HAlif@x are twats...but they did pay us all our bank charges back!

Still quite happy to try and charge us but!

Haha citizens advice made me change bank accounts coz lloyds wanted to take £195 out my account in bank charges today so I withdrew all my money!!! They aint getting a penny!!!

Kimbo Natwest do a great student account which you dont get charged for if u go over drawn ;) work thinking about hehe

I had a nightmare with bank charges a while ago, I think everyone has had at some point!

Last time I went overdrawn I rang Lloyds and they waived the charge, they can only do it for one charge every 12 months though. Not sure if other banks do the same :?
