What age did everyone's LO move from cot to bed ? I've got a cot bed so it's an easy transition practical wise but not sure when ?? Any tips on doing it successfully ?!

I quite like that he is contained at the moment !! But know that I can't hold on to that forever.

Thanks xx

Mine was an early mover at 15 months- but he hated his cot

I wouldn't bother moving until you really need to- I have a friend with twins who at 3 have only just changed over to a toddler bed!

The longer they're contained, the better!!

Definitely keep them in the cot as long as possible!!! We moved our daughter over into a bed last summer (she was just under 2.5), just because we wanted to get the whole transition out of the way and not because she was attempting to climb out or anything. She ran around for the first couple of nights, but after that was fine.

My son's 15 months, but there's no way I'd consider putting him in a bed at the moment as he's not a confident walker or climber yet and he seems fine in his cot. He'll probably be ready for a bed before his sister was though, but we're just going with the flow.

my lo is just over 2.5 and he is still in a cot (its a cot bed with the sides up)
i dont see the point in taking sides off?>????
he is safe and contained and he likes that feeling!
dont see the point in taking them off for the sake of it we dont need the cot
and i like knowing he is safe!
wont be taking the sides off until there is a reason to!

We took the sides off cotbed a few weeks ago so James was just under 27 months. James hated it as a cot and was actually sleeping on the cot mattress on our bedroom floor.

He hadn't spent a single night in his own room since we moved in (November) but my OH suggested going down the 'big boy bed' route to encourage him into his own room and it only bloody well worked. OH did all the transitioning - and still puts him to bed most nights!

We've had a few night-time issues (he has rolled out a few times but not wakened lol) so we just stick a few pillows on the floor. The baby gate is closed at night as well so he can only get to our room if he were to wake up and decide to wonder - which he hasn't.

My LO is two next month and I cannot imagine taking the sides off his cotbed anytime soon.

He's far too wriggy in his sleep, so much so that we still have him in gro bag! I can put him to bed one way up and can guarantee he'll be upside down at the other end by morning and probably covered most of the mattress overnight too!

We're just buying another cot bed for our second baby due soon, which is another reason I want my eldest staying in the cotbed, I don't want him waking up, wandering about and poking the baby!

We tried to make the move with my son last month at 23 months and it was a disaster! He wouldn't nap, wouldn't go to bed, was up ten times in the night and awake from 5/6am. After 4 days I begged my OH to put the sides back on.

I did a bit of research and found that the child needs to understand the invisible boundaries of the bed. Mine doesn't lol x

We moved our boy from cot to cot bed with bed rail 3 weeks ago - he is 25 months. He has been really good and first few nights did attempt to get out. Reccomend putting stair gate on their door and making the room toddler proof. We just kept putting him back In bed the super nanny way and now he doesn't get out of bed at all. He was phasing his naps out anyway so naps he isn't soo good, but if he needs a nap I just put him in his travel cot in his room.

My lo has just turned 2 and we won't be moving her anytime soon. She isnt trying to climb out yet so I think its best to leave her. I don't have a reason to move her.

We moved her at 22 months as one morning I was awoken by a snotty toddler face breathing onto my face - she'd climbed over and ran into our room. We initially took the sides down and put a toddler rail up with a stairgate on her door. She didn't mind it at all. We then needed the cot for the new baby so we bought her a standard single bed, it was a little higher and she was a bit wary but she loves going to bed now, she wants to dive in after a bath before she's dressed etc, she randomly likes to cuddle her books and she falls asleep instantly. Before bedtime /nap time was always a bit of a struggle. We had a couple of weeks where she'd get out and wonder round and call for us so hubby would get into bed with her and she'd fall asleep.
Another weird thing is she was such a wriggler in her cot but in her bed she just stays in one position.

Dd1 is nearly 23 months and still in her cot. She loves it and shows no signs of wanting to climb out so I'm keeping her in it until she does! She's still in sleeping bags too, tried her with a duvet and she just pulled a face.

We took the sides off LO's cot at 25 months as he was throwing himself over the bars! It's been a mixture of success and failure though. At 2 years 7 months he still has nights where he gets up and down out of bed before settling down! X
