So, after reading up a bit on the internet, I've discovered that cot bumpers can be considered unsafe for reasons such as they restrict the airflow around the cot, babies head can get stuck etc.

But I've also read that if you don't have one, then bubs can get their arms and legs stuck in the bars which is also dangerous.

Whats a first time mum to be to do? :help:

Hmmm, i'd be interested in the answer to this too. I'm of the opinion that surely places like Mothercare wouldn't sell them if they were that dangerous?

That's what I thought as well. You can buy them everywhere so surely they can't be that dangerous. It drives you mad all this information.

The internet is a dangerous place sometimes! Theres so much conflicting advice, i practically tortured myself in trying to work out if to wash new clothes, and what to wash with etc. In the end, i've done what i've felt is right

Yes, the midwife said you are not supposed to use them until they are 1, also sleeping bags are not safe for newborns?

Sleeping bags are fine once baby weighs a certain weight, think it's 8lb. You can buy breathable bumpers x

What? Sleeping bags as well now?! I thought they were meant to be safe.

Does anyone know 'why' they're unsafe?

i hate cot bumpers, well thats a lie i like the look of them but once baby is moving i think they should be off anyways theyre crap cos they never stay nice and neat and tidy like the pics of them. xx

i think it depends on the size and baby's weight. my sleeping bag says from 7 1/2lbs

Its so weird - everyone seems to have different advice, so confusing!

I use a cot bumper, have done since Matthew went in his cot, I jut make sure the bottom of it is tucked in around the mattress, so he can't go under it! Still looks good!

I've got an Airwrap bumper as Isla kept putting her arms and legs throughthe bars and then waking up because she was stuck.

It's breathable and attaches to the bars with velcro.

I have the smame as above ^^ they can also be used when the child can sit/stand as they cant use them to climb out as they collapse if used as a ladder lol

Ooo that sounds like a good product, I'd make sure I look into one of these. Thanks!

I also got an airwrap one when zac started moving in his sleep, I would go in and he would have his face pressed up against the bumper (really scared me). X

I didn't read replies so sorry if I'm repeating, bumper, quilt and pillow aren't advised until 12mths, sleeping bags aren't advised for babies under 8lb 13oz.. I had my LO in a crib until he was 8-9 months, when he did go into his cot I put the bumper around the bottom of the cot instead of at his head, still looks nice with not as much worry x
