I've just been sat here wondering what would be best for me to go for after Francesca arrives?

I'm no good with the pill... I always forget to take it...
I'd rather not just use condoms if poss (we all know it's just not as good lol)

I've been looking at the injection and patches but not sure what's safe for breastfeeding and whats not :/

Any advice/experiences ladies?

Thankss :) xx

The coil is great, the one without the hormones would be perfect x

I was thinking about it... But (probably sounds stupid) does it hurt when they put it in/take it out or what ever? x

It is uncomfortable to have put in, a bit like a smear. They tell you to cough when they take it out, so you don't feel anything x

Thanks hun :) Will read up on it a bit more me thinks xx

I had the implant hun, got it taken out because of weight gain and headaches but it was good every other way x

That the under the skin one? Again with that one, does it hurt? And is ok for breastfeeding? xx

Yes hun on the inside of your arm, they give you a local anesthetic which stings for a second, you are numb but can feel tugging.. I assume it's safe for BFing as I was when the MW suggested I get it x

Exactly the same. I put on 4 stone on the implant and 5 stone on the depro injection (quite a while apart, I'm not 9st overweight!) Oh and mine went in too deep, they made a right mess of my arm getting it out (and also grabbed part of my inside of my arm as well as the implant.)

I've been thinking about this also, been on the pill for along time, and was thinking about the implant, but dont wanna go for it if it makes you put on weight. Might go for the coil. My MIL had it done not too long ago she said it was a wee bit uncomfortable but not too bad. Gonna have a think about it anyway.

:)

i've got the implant and its been fine for me, stopped my periods and no weight gain. everything effects everyone differently i was on the pill 3 years ago and gained 3 stone!! xx

Thanks ladies :) I'm really not sure what I'm going to go for yet but I've still got time to think about it :) Knowing me I'll wuss out of anything invasive and just end up back on the pill lol xx

I've got the coil. I fell pregnant on the pill so that was a big no no, I don't like the thought of the implant so it was between the coil or patch but went for the coil cos it's in for 5 years so you can forget about it and after afew months your periods stop. I'll prob jinx myself now but I haven't had a bleed in about 2/3 months x x

With all of them I'm thinking about in the future if I decide to have another baby how they will have affected my cycle/fertility? The non-hormone coil sounds appealing for that reason... But I'm not sure cause it's so invasive! All of this would be so much easier if I wasn't paranoid about everything making me infertile :wall2: (someone my brother knows had the implant in for 6 months, had it taken out cause she decided to try for a baby, but is still waiting, 3 years later, she stopped releasing eggs altogether) x

Hun there's always things like using OV sticks but it's not 100% reliable (well nothing is but you get what I mean) there is also the patch that a few girls have on here too x

Taa, think I'll have a chat with hv about it as well :) xx

i had the implant in, didnt hurt having it put in or taken out, had about 3 periods a year, did make me gain a little bit of weight but not loads. and when i had it removed i was pregnant in that 1st month! i love it due to the fact you dont have to worry about it, only thing i didnt like about it was the weight gain, but like i said it wasnt much and to be fair i needed a bit of meat on me! lol xx thinking of just having another one just put back in after Little man is here... i cant do the pill as im crap at remembering to take it.. will look into the coil tho to.. :) xx

I use the patch and I love it! It's so easy to use! X

same, really easy to use! I love it! cant use most hormonal contraception though when BFing as it will slow down your milk supply. The midwife will talk to you about it when youre discharged from the postnatal ward.
