CONFUSED ANY HELP PLEASE

Can somebody please help ?

I went for a scan yesterday as i had found out i was pregnant a couple of weeks ago and with my problems with my diabetes and pcos the docters decided on sending me for a scan early .

When they did the scan she said my bump was equivalent to 5 weeks gestation .

Now when ive been reading baby books its says that they add two weeks on or something like that .

So am i 7 weeks when ive added the 2 wks on or am i 5 weeks like the said it was on the scan .

Sorry about this its my first and im all confused on how it works lol

Hi Wend

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I think the scan would be more accurate at judging the correct length of your pregnancy and maturity of your baby.

My dates put me at a different time to what the scan did. Now we are going by the scan date not my LMP delivery date.

I'm sure when you have your booking in appointment the nurse will explain it better for you.

Hi and welcome, i would presume it means you are 5 weeks pregnant as when docs refer to your pregnancy they talk about what you ACTUALLY are x

hi wend,

in my pregnancy books gestation refers to the time since conception.
but you're right; to work out how many weeks pregnant you are you need to add 2 weeks, as the dates are worked out since your last menstrual period.

so if they told you 5 weeks gestation, that makes you 7 weeks pregnant!!!
