I really don't know what to do...

I'm due back at work on the 20th June and I don't want to go back but we can't afford for me not to work. Anyway today I looked into going back part time thinking that if I was working less we'd probably be entitled to a little bit more tax credits...but sadly it doesn't seem so from working it out on the website. Even though I'd be losing a massive 15K in salary going PT I'm not entitled to anything more than I would get with my full wage...

Am I missing something or is this right?

It doesn't sound right to me... but i don't really know without putting the figures in! How many hours would part-time be?
I think it's really sad that they make it financially hard for mums not to work! Maybe give the tax credit people a call and see what they say about it?
xx

If you were working less than 30 hours you would get the 30-hr Element which would be extra but not sure about anything else. Might be worth ringing and explaining your situation and they may be able to advise you :)

I don't know about your questions but wanted to give you some of these

I remember feeling exactly the same after having my son, I was so very upset at the thought of going back full time and leaving my baby at home. I ended up going back 4 days a week which has worked out well for me. The thinking about going back is definately worse than the doing hun. It is actually nice to be with adult company knowing that you have a special LO to go home to at the end of the day. I hope you get things sorted out

Xxx

I reduced my hours from 37 to 24 and my tax credits haven't gone up in fact they have gone down by £2 :wall:

I've just posted a similar thread to this one. I would like to do the same as what you are doing (ie going back part time) I know everyone is different but i want to be the one to bring up my child not a nanny. I think you are right.. you get bugger all for working less, yet if you didnt work atall you get a nice little package.

The whole thing is really annoying me and its all wrong in my eyes. If you find out any information then please let me know and i will do the same.
