After having spotting for over a week and really horrible sharpe pains low down in my groin back and leg on my left side I went to hospital today. I have been told I have a urine infection and have been put on tablets to clear it up and codeine for the pain. Would I not be better off just taking normal paracetomol? I didn't think you could take codeine whilst pregnant xx

I think codeine is more of a risk towards the end of pregnancy as it can cause breathing difficulties for the baby. Personally I would try not to take it, but I hate codeine anyway. Its worth bearing in mind that its addictive if used regularly and also can cause constipation which you could probably do without during pregnancy. If the paracetamol helps with the pain, then I would stick with that.

I'm trying to see if I can do without but I will struggle at work, I'm worried its something more serious but I have my scan on friday so ill soon know if everything is ok. Xx

I wasnt aware that you could take codine during pregnancy. If your GP has given it to you, you should be fine.

I struggle by with Paracetamol as I know that is safe, even though it doesnt touch the headaches :( x

My mw said docs would give me codine for spd at 36 weeks so guessing its safe. They wouldn't give you it if not id suggest you way up your pros and cons and decide thats best for you
