Evie doesn't like her Moses basket very much- and I'm still a bit achey so finding it hard to lift her in and out of it when I'm laying in bed.

Last night we let her sleep on a pillow in between us (obviously on top of the duvet not underneath!) and she slept 11pm-3am; woke for a feed and a fart  ; and she is still upstairs asleep with Daddy at half 7 so she obviously prefers that to her Moses Basket!

Obviously I have heard the horror stories about co-sleeping... I'm not worried about rolling on her- I wake up if she as much as twitches  - but just wanted to know the 'rules' on co-sleeping?

ALSO... I'm boob feeding but it is absolutely killing me- only been doing it for 2 days so expect it to be sore but how long can I expect it to last? I was almost crying last night; and I have to curl my toes up because of the chomping! :x

Hey Jade,

I used to co-sleep with DD, not every night and not all night, but sometimes. I used to follow the rules of not under the duvet (she lay on top in her sleepsuit (was summer) or in her grobag; I always made sure OH was aware she was in bed and after an unfortunate falling out of bed experience at 3 weeks ( - not as bad as it sounds, was sleeping in a futon!), I usually put her inbetween us and learnt to feed from both boobs facing into the bed; also never do it if either of you have been smoking (does your OH smoke?) or drinking - this is really important.

The breast feeding gets so much easier I promise! I remember that toe curling pain so well and it must have lasted about a week or 10 days for me, since then its been a breeze! Your nips toughen up. Has your latch been checked by m/w? Stick at it, its so worth it!

Congratulations on the birth of Evie!

I co sleep with lil miss... she goes down in her cot but when she wakes up at 12am for a feed I bring her into bed with me. Don't drink or do drugs... and in general I am very obsessive about making sure nothing is covering lil miss or near her face (drives DH nuts!)... but as its been hot here the last few nights lil miss has just been sleeping in a short sleeved vest. It got a bit chilly last night so I put the duvet on her legs this morning to keep her warm....:)

I never sleep well co sleeping, the constant fidgeting and knowledge that the baby is there makes it difficult, but lil miss is so clingy and feeds sooo often that if I didn't co sleep I'd never sleep.

The pain gets better...promise... but you need to make sure that you LO is latched on properly... i swear by lanolin ointment but others here swear by nipple shields... try anything :)

I used to co-sleep with Maddison when she was first born until she was about 7 or 8 weeks. I still miss it now so when she wakes at 6am I give her morning bottle to her in my bed then we go back to sleep together for an hour or so :D I love it

Hi, I dont cosleep as I find it hard to relax properly when she is in the bed but with regards to the feeding, yes it really hurts for the firstweek- 10 days then you will suddenly realise it doesnt hurt anymore and its such a relief! I recommend Lansinoh cream, its not cheap but it really helps, good luck xxx

I only had nipple pain for a day or two with both of my kids. My godsend was a sachet of Lasinoh that my midwife gave me. It works miracles but the shops sell it in big tubes for around £10 and to be honest you'll only need to apply it a couple of times so a trial size would be plenty. Ask your midwife or health visitor before you go out and buy some. x

Firstly, Congratulations on the birth of your baby girl Evie Mae :cheer:  :cheer:

Pretty much what midna said :D
Co-sleeping is perfectly safe, before baskets and cots it happened all the time
Enjoy it!!
Very best wishes

I love co-sleeping! alice still comes into bed with us every so often. I love waking up next to her!!

in the summer i used to strip her down to a nappy and put her under a sheet with me. now she tends to come under the cover with me, but she kicks it off if she gets too hot.

logan sleeps in my bed, ontop of the duvet in his grobag. OH is sleeping on the sofabed downstairs. Id not planned on co-sleeping but logan wont settle in his moses basket, even if i put him in there asleep he wakes up within a few mins!

co-sleeping was suggested at the breast feeding workshop i attended, and also the midwife who helped me get logan latched at the unit when he was born said that co-sleeping was fine.

I find it makes breastfeeding a lot easier as logan can feed constantly for several hours and it allows me to doze.

I found the pain of breastfeeding got a lot better around day 4 or 5. It hardly hurts at the moment. Lanishol cream has been a lifesaver for me :)
