Hello,

I have been thinking about the whole labour thing recently and I wondered if anyone could answer this one for me.... if I go into labour at home (with contractions) and I stay there for a while - what do I wear? I mean should I imediately put on the nighty during the contractions or is it ok to still talk about in jeans.

I know when I get to hospital I will need to strip down for the MW to examine me but at home can I be more relaxed about what I wear....?

Thanks ladies

Yeah.. wear whatever you want. I would opt for a bath robe or smething equally as comfy.. but as long as you're not restricting things too much.. it's fine. You're at home. Be naked if you want.

When I had my son I didnt really care what I was wearing, it could have been a chicken costume as long as the pain went away. I knew Id never want to be naked in labour or birth and I cant even remember what I had on! I think it was a long cheapy nightdress that got chucked after cos of all the blood. This time I think it will be the same, but nothing too restrictive and maybe a thin dressing gown as hospitals are soooo darn hot!

May I suggest dark coloured trousers for the trip to hospital, coz if your waters break in the car it won't notice as much  My waters broke while I was at home but, they were leaking the whole trip into hospital!! I wore black jogggers & you couldn't see the wet patches!! (maternity pads were great until DH drove over the first bump)!!

I wore shorts and vest when I was in labour with DD and only stripped down once I started pushing. After the birth & bath I got into a nightie with thin straps, which was great for breast feeding.

I gave birth in the vest top that I went to the hospital in. I just took my bottoms off to be examined and then never bothered putting them back on or anything else on. At the time you won't care what your wearing. xxxx

Yeah I just wore a nighty type top when I got in hospital, I didnt actualy want anything on my lower half felt really uncomfortable.

But when I was labouring at home I had some joggers on and a thin top as you get mighty hot :D

Our hospital told us to pick an old tee or nightie that we won't want afterwards, it'll be chucked... and as for bottoms, I think old leisure pants of a dark colour till you take em off...after that when you get back to the ward I think a nightie or pajamas with button front, you're going to need that...

Wear whatever you want, as long as you're comfortable and it's not too restricting! I turned up at the hospital in one of my OH's T-shirts and a pair of jogging bottoms, got changed into my nightie, but as I went in the water whilst labouring, I was naked! My mum and OH were in there with me and a Midwife, but I didn't give a damn tbh!

I'm gonna get a long-ish nightie for going into labour..! Already panicking about my lady bits being on show which is silly really! I normally chill out at home in leggings or PJs...still not really thought that far ahead yet
