Okie cokie I know there are a few threads but I just wondered

Are there anything you wished you had done differently?

Are there any expensies you wish you had forked out?

Anything you over looked?

What time of the day did you have yours?

Was it a christening of naming ceremony?

Fankooo

Hi,

Antonio's Christening will be at 2.30pm on a Sunday which the vicar said was the "usuall" time to have it, however ive been to quite a few Christening's and people have it at all different times. We went to one last Sunday and they had theirs at 4pm - I think its personnal choice really :D

Our Christening is in 6 weeks so I have no idea if Ive overlooked anything yet, fingers crossed I havnt. When it comes to expense, it can vary and really all depends on what it is you want.

Not quite sure what a naming ceramony is but would be quite interested to find out.

So what things have you got planned so far?

My OH gave me the nod last night to go ahead and organise it  Im my own worst enemy I love planning out the slightest details and making lists :rotfl:

While on the subject can I just ask if it's the done thing to take a gift to a Christening? If so, what to get? I've actually never been to one before and my friends little boys is in 2 weeks!

Ive been to quite a few Christenings and have always taken a present, whilst at the christening other people that walked in the room had presents to give as well so the first time i was very glad i did take one as like you I was usure.

I suppose the "norm" is to give something that is a keepsake so to speak. At the first Christening I gave:-

1) A personnalised keepsake box with babys name written on the top and inside it had a birth certificate schroll holder, silver plated brush and comb, silver plated "my first curl box" and a bunny toy. And becuase my OH was the Godfather to the baby being Christened I got a Twinkle Twinkle bangle for OH to give to her from him.

At the second Christening I gavet :- A Childrens Bible Book (This family in particular were very religious so it seemed appropriate) a Christening photo album which was gorgeous and a pretty babys photo frame.

At the third Christening I gave :- A photo frame with a big window in the middle for a big picture to go in and then 12 little windows round the edge from month 1 to month 12 so they could put a new picture in for each month of babies first year and some money to go in his child trust fund.

I really cant remember what I gave for other Christenings.

Its difficult becuase you never know what gifts other people are getting and he/she could end up with 2 of the same.

Hope that helps?

T x

what do people do after a christening

i was going to hire a room at the local pub and do a buffet but will it be boring without a disco or something?

help im stuck

We are not religious and OH is not cristened so we are more than likely going to have a naming ceremony which is held at the register office and we will get all three children done at the same time. You have supporting adults instead of god parents.

Becky J - we will be having it in a pub or local con club (the drink is alot cheaper) and will not have a disco as people only normally stay for a few hours, I was thinking that we will make up a CD and ask them to play this in their system

We had DD christening today we had a hotel function room for the after party and a buffet. We had our own cake made for afters. The christening was at 12 which was a really nice time as it meant we had all afternoon for the party. Also as its on a sunday most people have work the next day and the kids are at school so an afternoon party was better than an evening one. There is really no need for entertainment we had a cd playing in the backround but everyone was talking anyway. We decorated the room ourselves and had loads if baloons which kept the kids amused. There was nothing i would of of done differently as it was a real sucess.

Having just opened all DD presents we do have a fair few photo frames, trinket boxes and hairbrush/comb sets and bangles which we have no real use for but its nice to keep for DD to have when she is older but i found the best thing we got was money for her bank account.

We celebrated our son's christening last Sunday and we had a great day.

If I was to do it again I would not have spent so much on the invites and bought a smaller cake. We also bought posies of flowers to give to special family members. Big mistake as 2 of them sat with a face like thunder throughout the entire christening. Changing these small things would have saved me just under £70.

The christening happened during 11.30 mass and we had a buffet at 1pm in a local hotel. Everthing was over by 3pm and we were home by 3.30.

I was most pleased with the thankyou cards. We used shop bought ones and put my son's foot print on it.

Never been to a christening that has a disco

TBH I'd just go a bit of food someplace decent, champagne and OJ and let people buy their own drinks outside of that.

porscias christening was july 6th at 10am... had about 100 people there.. she had 3 godmothers and 1 godfather... then we had a party after for everyone...my hubby rigged up his decksfor music... got a caterer in for the food..my hubbys dad made the desserts (which i didn't get any of :-( ) .. was going to get a bouncy castle for the kids.. but glad i didn't it rained all day.. so we got a face painter and giant connect four and snakes and ladders for the kids to play.. we brought the godparents a little photo frame each with their names on and a little message from porscia thanking them..with a cute picture of her also on the other side...the best part of the day is when my darling hubby thanked me for giving him his precious little girl..everyone wasin tears...was a really good day all in alll

Clark's was really relaxed and I loved it, our church do the christening ceremony during the family service on a Sunday morning which I loved because there were loads of other kids there not just Clark and his cousin. Then my mom did food for everyone at her house and it was really relaxed and we had a great time, after the guests had gone it was just us, my mom and dad, my nan and my sister and her boyfriend and it felt a bit like Christmas day! :D
