Chocolate, cake, biscuits

Just another thought going on from the encouraging snacking later on in life. I think this is not a bad thing as we seem to think that having three set meals a day is the way it should be but snacking on small healthy portions often throughout the day is much better in terms of supplying your body with the energy needed, blood sugar kept regular etc etc.

You're right, I perform much better when I eat little and often, so does Freya.

but deffinately seems to be enjoying it tho........ my LO loves chocolate. but most people dont agree so :shhh: :rotfl: :rotfl:

You know what, I don't care what other people think anymore. Along with her fruit and veg ...Evie has had pizza from pizza hut, chocolate brownies and ice cream at the pub, a taste of John Smiths (Thanks to my Dad! ) and I found her licking an empty wine glass I'd left on the floor.

She's also eaten a 5p, numerous amounts of carpet fluff and a couple of bits of cat food :puke: :puke: :puke:

:talkhand: But you know what, I'm still a good mum because I have a happy, HEALTHY baby girl.

I'm so glad DD has shown no interest in crawling so we can pop her on her mat sitting up and she goes nowhere! In my head that is how she will stay forever - I'm not looking forward to having to her being mobile  If you pop her on the carpet though she will try to pick up bits of fluff. I tell you what ladies, that carpet fluff must be delicious if you have the right taste buds :rotfl:

lol Cally has eaten all sorts of things. I once found Seren chewing something in the garden, held out my hand for her to spit it out and it was a snail - bleurgh (but at least it was sugar free ;) )

Isaac's had all three, in with his balanced diet, he's not got an eating disorder because of it, isn't obsessed by it, and I don't see it as a bad thing to give children sweet stuffs. As with any lifestyle its about balance and exercise, I wouldn't think someone a bad parent for giving these things to a child, but that's just my view and being overweight I'm well aware of how that could cause many issues for my children and that's why I don't think too much about it, balance and exercise are key for my babies.

i don't know what refined sugar does to your bady. I don't know why it is considered bad.

got to go = crying baby

The general issues seem to be the almost immediate spike it causes in blood sugar levels - the body then releases a huge dose of insulin because it's expecting a long drawn out sugar intake to come its way; insulin basically removes excess sugar from the blood so that the blood glucose level stays constant. However, because those cake/sweets etc tend to have nothing in the way of good old complex sugars (the ones which release sugar gradually, which the body expects) then that big shot of insulin has removed too much glucose from the blood, and then you get the sugar crash and the craving for more and a vicious circle ensues.

Also, the junk that sometimes accompanies the cake/sweets etc needs help to be eliminated from the body. It needs to use your vitamin stores to do this, meaning the body can then be depleted of precious vitamins needed for their normal roles like fighting illness, skin regeneration etc simply to remove the rubbish from the body.

Moderation is they key as most people have said and that will work for the majority, but it sadly seems with the influx of processed foods that occured in the 70's/80's, some people are becoming less and less able to moderate their own eating habits! This is thought to be why there has been such as rise in Diabetes in the last 20 or so years.

I didnt let Ellie have anything really until xmas when we started to let her have the odd bit of choc that we were having etc, now she has a taste of most things that we eat even if they are full of sugar but its only a taste so I dont see any harm in it. She has milk buttons as a treat sometimes now too & she had some birthday cake!

She has a very balanced diet and eats lots of fruit & veg so I dont see any harm in it as long as its in moderation, I eat choc and sweet foods sometimes so I let her have a taste too now shes a bit older :D x

Anything and Everything..!!

Fluff, dirt, cat fur, chocolate, cake, etc etc... biscuits. ALL milk free, they have to be as he cant have any.

I guess that makes me feel sorry for him, and it restricts him enough, so I feel bad not giving him little treats as he cant have much!!

Still, even if he wasnt allergic... knowing me id still give him treats :) Im not to hung up on the whole sugar thing, so long as he eats healthy and is happy thats all that matters to me.

Harrison has chocolate buttons occasionally, the odd bit of biscuit (usually mine) but mainly eats the baby stuff. He has tastes of what we have too. He's happy and healthy and so I am I :D

Thank you so much for this!

Hmm I think it's really mixed opinions on this one! I think I will just go with what feels right. She'll definately have a bit of birthday cake when she's one! Thinking of doing a Makka Pakka cake . . . .
