Hi all.

I've been hearing mixed things about cheese, whether you can eat it or not?

I enjoy cheese and crackers, just mild or chedder cheese, nothing fancy. Is it okay to eat that? What about things like Philidelphia? Soft Cheese Spread?

Thanks in advance.

x

Yep, all fine, just not unpasteurised stuff like Brie and mouldy stuff like Stilton x

You can eat phillidelphia because it's pasturised x

I was wondering about this. I was given a goats cheese and onion tart for dinner at MIL's the other night. The goats cheese was really runny (but it was hot) and it got me worried because i had heard "no soft cheese". But I dont want to be an over precious person balking at every little thing, i think thats unhealthy too, so i ate it. But otherwise i'm sticking to cheddar.

i got really confused with my first pregnancy over the philly one haha an cheese spread lol

i eat them n baba was fine! i think it is just un pasturised,

hahaa i hope so any way coz ive been cravin that philly advert were he cooks pasta an phili with prawns hahaah was going to make that hahaah

Pasturised just means it's been brought up to a high temperature so it makes sure any bugs are killed so you can eat them if they are really well cooked so your goats cheese should of been fine. Phili is fine too, just not Brie, Stilton, feta and goats unless it's cooked

I have been using this as my guide

Here's a guide to which cheeses are safe and which are unsafe during pregnancy:

Safe cheeses in pregnancy

  • Hard cheeses: smoked versions, caerphilly, cheddar, cheshire, derby, double gloucester, edam, emmental, English goat's cheddar, feta, gouda, gruyere, halloumi, havarti, jarlsberg, lancashire, manchego, orkney, paneer, parmesan, pecorino (hard), provolone, red leicester.
  • Soft, processed cheeses: garlic and herb roulade, cottage cheese, cream cheese, feta, goat's cheese without a white rind, mascarpone, mozzarella, processed cheese (such as cheese spread and cheese segments), quark, ricotta.
  • Yoghurts, probiotic drinks, fromage frais, soured cream and creme fraiche are all safe to eat. These include any variety, including natural, flavoured and live versions.
Unsafe cheeses in pregnancy

  • Mould-ripened soft cheeses: brie, blue brie, cambozola, camembert, chaumes, chevre (goat's cheese with a white rind), pont l'eveque, taleggio, vacherin-fribourgeois.
  • Blue-veined cheeses: bergader, bleu d'auvergne, blue wensleydale, shropshire blue, danish blue, dolcelatte, gorgonzola, roncal, roquefort, stilton, tomme.
  • Soft, unpasteurised cheese, including goat's and sheep's cheeses: chabichou, pyramide, torta del cesar.

At it goes along with what my midwife said :) basically avoid stilton and brie etc but most other things are good to go :)

I love a bit of baked brie and bread lol but never mind gives me something to look forward to after the birth :)

Hi I was told as long as it is pasturised that all should be well; don't eat the blue cheeses or anything to exotic and mayonnaise, I think some soft cheeses are questionable to. I would stay safe with a chedder chick xx
