We were looking at car seats yesterday and are a bit confused what to go for. The lady in the shop said that the new I size regulations will be compulsory next year so if our lo grows out of their rear facing seat before 15 months and the regs are enforceable we'd need to buy an I size seat and base to comply.

Just wondering what you have all gone for - I size base and seat in case you need it for the last couple of months (or want I size anyway for the next few years as safer) or a normal isofix base and seat which hopefully lo will fit in the baby seat until 15 months and then have lo front facing??

Our pram is compatible with maxi-cosi so we're looking at the cabrio, pebble or pebble plus xx

How does an easy fix base work as I thought they all needed isofix points? xx

We've got the cabriofix and will get the pearl for the 2nd seat (to comply with rear facing) the in laws have bought the maxi-cosi isofix base that matches these 2

I have the familyfix base with pebble seat and will go on to the pearl when she outgrows the pebble x

Pretty certain it's in place now Durham. When you go on the gov site it says it all there. But I think that guide on parent dish is saying if you've changed your under 15month old round already don't worry but any new children will be born into this new law.

I'm under the impression that the old rules run alongside the new rules until 2018?

Yea so from that - I understand it to mean any new babies born are to comply with this law. And that's how it will be phased out

Realistically the police aren't going to make an issue if your newborn is in a non isofix seat for few years yet. My seat isn't and should last baby until the new rules come in, so it'll be time to change seats anyway.

Yea I don't think they care if you have a base, Only that baby is rear facing. So if you can get away without buying the base then you definitely don't need one. My LO was very squished in his seat and would cry everytime he was in the car (he was 24lbs at 6months) so I ended up changing his seat at 9 months (I know being squashed doesn't mean they've outgrown it)

The main reason I've gone for a base this time is because I will have 2 children to buckle in so to make my life easier and if I do need to buy a larger seat early I can get one that goes with the base. :)
