hi. im hoping to get my car back on the road soon.

i had previosly nearly had 2yrs no claims bonus befor taking car off road.

i cancelled the insurance. am i back to 1yrs?

ive got a quote from confused.com for over £600. which is rather high (on third party f&t)

they usually ask for the certificate of no claims, i dont have it, as the last place didnt send me one, im guessing because i cancelled. and i gave them my 1yrs cert last time.

any clues?

I think you only get it for completed years.

I got mine for the Espace yesterday to get the car taxed (we've been running it as third party on another policy), £1050 for the year, 3rd party fire and theft with 10+ years no claims. I pay £250 for the Rover - hope when I renew that it doesn't go up so much. Needless to say, we no longer have an Espace

i would recomend phoning them! most advisors have a percentage they can knock of the price

and it tends to only be for completed years.

hi thanks for the relpys.

i will ring them. wanted to get a quote online first to get an idea of what im looking at.

i miss driving :( and with LO on the way it will be invaluable.

its a BMW 520i

so i expected a high quote. but didnt expect that much  specially now im abit older (20)

Have you tried tesco? my insurance is £245 )with 5 years no claims) but still much cheaper than any other quote

i sell this stuff at work, so i can tell you:
if you cancel your policy mid-term (as opposed to just not renewing it) you do not get another year no-claims. it is completed years you get.
if you cancelled your policy, your ex-insurer should send out your proof of bonus, as you will need it for your new insurer to honour it. they prob won't send it out until you fone them and ask for it.
also, £600 is a bit high, but for a bmw only 1 year no-claims and 20 years old, its not a surprising amount. but good luck finding it cheaper!

Have you tried confused.com? thier pretty good and we used them when we bought our new saab 9-3, turned out to be a pretty good deal considering OH has a previous ban and about 6 points lol

I have an espace - the insurance for that £450 fully comp with full no claims but with one 3rd party accident.
that is with the post office insurance.

Dont go with well known companies - shop around the smaller ones they can be cheaper.

thats where i got the quote from. the cheapest was with swinton.

thanks for all the replys. and for the PM trixipaws.

ill try some lesser known insurers when the time comes.

i know its a big car ect, but its also an old one. i didnt think it would be quite so high :?
