As title says... I really cant go on like this much longer!
Emily just will not sleep for any length of time and I am so sleep deprived i cant function. Last night's sleeps were 45 mins, 70 mins, 35 mins, 45 mins and 35 mins making a total of 3 hr 50 mins. Usually I combination feed which is taking forever, but last night did formula only in the hope she might have slept longer periods. She is now almost six weeks and has never slept longer than 2.5 hours in one go - more usually it's 45 mins, and it's killing me...!
During the day it is rare that she will sleep unless I am holding her... I really can't go on like this - I need to get some sleep!
Also think she might have reflux as after feeds she s very uncomfortable - lots of writhing about and pulling her legs up, arching her back, etc. Am going to try and see the GP today.
Any help / advice gratefully received.

I personally think if you want to persevere with bfing you need to drop the ff. There is no evidence that shows it makes babies sleep longer. My Tyler barely sleeps longer than 2 hours. Before 6 weeks he'd go anything from 4 (rarely!) to half an hour at night. In the day he'd feed every hour. After his 6 week jabs he'd sleep 1-2 hours at a time at night. Yesterday he slept 4 but that is the FIRST time since 6 weeks. I think if your worried speak to your HV. If baby does have reflux it'll need treating for both your sanitys!

Alyssa has been like this for the last 2 days. mostly at night tho. she sleeps for a good few hours during the day if i can put her down without waking her but at night when OH brings her up shes a terror to get off again. in fact she hast really slept since he brought her up last night. the minute you put her down she screams, shes only been quiet while feeding/latched to me. as i type shes feeding and sleepy but not quite asleep.
poor little love seems in pain but i dont know what it is, shes calm when feeding, she sleeps when held, preferably upright but ive had her lay down for hours asleep yesterday she seems a bit colicky so im giving infacol at each feed. if it turns out to be reflux i will cry cos shes been fine til now and ive just kinda got this bf lark cracked so it would be typical if something else went wrong :(

Hi Hun I feel your pain!
Is your lo being sick? If not may be it's trapped wind, maybe try infacol to help this. We started it last night in the hope it will make him more comfortable after feeds.
Have you tried all the following:

Warming Moses basket before putting lo down

Swaddling

Sleeping bags

More comfortable mattress

Projector (this really calms my lo and I think distracts)

Elevating one end of Moses

I've tried all these and it's still very hit and miss!

You poor thing! You really need more sleep. Maybe she gets cramps or has reflux? I would try to see gp. Good luck!

I would go see GP hun and see if anything for reflux.

I'm a believer in happy mummy equals happy baby. Do what you think is best. It'll all fall in to place.

Maybe ask OH or a parent if they can watch lo so you can have a good sleep. Xxxx

Thanks ladies... Managed to see the GP this morning and she has given us infant gaviscon to try as she said it sounds like reflux. Really hope it helps. I bought some infacol earlier this week and have been giving Emily that before feeds, but hasn't made a difference, so wind doesn't seem to be the problem.

Loads of good ideas... Thank you! I am thinking a more padded mattress might be better as we did just get a cheapy budget range Moses basket... Might get a new mattress. I do have it raised slightly, but doesn't seem to help her much.

Have you tried gripe water? gave alice some yesterday when she was screaming and imediatly she stopped i could feel her belly going then loads of wind came out, i have never heard a burp like it i thought she had been sick from the sound it was massive, after that she slept for hours (this was daytime) x

Was gonna say gripe water. F has only just started being uncomfy at night and was waking prematurely, frying and when lifted farting. After 3.days infacol before feed to help burps up and gripe after to.help farts out, last night she slept, 4hrs, feed then 5 (im know she's older but its really helped) Xx

Think I might ave to get some gripe water too - give that a go.

How old is she as well? I remember the first few weeks were so tough!

well i hope it works it wont halm if it doesnt work---- oh and remeber to get some naps in during the day if you can while baby sleeps :) good luck tonight xxx

She'll be six weeks tomorrow...
Had a much better night last night... Two much longer sleeps - one of 2 hrs and another of 3 hrs... Fingers crossed the gaviscon helped make her more settled and it wasn't jet a fluke! :-)

That's the age that Sophie started to get a lot better. From 7 weeks she started sleeping for about 4 hours then went up to 6 and now it's generally 7-9 x

Sounds like wind, my little ins had the same at 6 weeks until 8 weeks. We changed bottles and to comfort milk and it helped a lot
