candy apples?!

Hi girls

Hoping someone in here might be able to help.

I tried to make candy apples this evening and ended up burning the mixture. Wondered if any of you knew how long on what number as I have an electric hob. I tried to keep the mixture simmering but I couldn't tell when it was ready..

Do any of you know how to tell if the mixture is ready?

Any help is greatly appreciated! Xxxx

Yeah but some say wait until its light ? its just that it didnt seem thick enough right up until it burned - I put pink food colouring in... it went brown LOL xxxx
