I know this might seem a bit early but Im spreading out my spending over a long period of time and at the moment Im trying to find a nice nursery set that won't cost the earth!

The one I really want is £400 from Argos (it was originally £500 but its on offer) and thats the cot bed, wardrobe and chest of draws. It really is beautiful but I dont think I can justify that much money when Ive still got other things to buy ie a car! lol!

Has anybody been looking at any good deals? Ive just been looking on the tescos site and I can get a cotbed and chest of draws for just over £200 which I thought was good. Any suggestions??

Ikea?

If it were me I'd go for the one I wanted, you'll be entitled to the £190 grant so that would cover some of it?

I dont think my minds going to give me an option actually.....Ive just found myself turning my nose up at all the cots ect and now im looking back at the argos site!!

I keep reminding myself about the £190 grant. I think I might be entitled to the £500 as well, but not until just before or just after shes born. Need to look into it a bit more.

I take it back, just looked at the one I want and its not on offer anymore...damn. £500 is a bit too much I think. *sigh*

Oh no :wall:

I've got an Argos card for special purchases that I can't afford at the time :oooo: You could pay it out of your grant :D

Have you looked on Ebay, there are some lovely lightly used sets , and as long as you find the right area , as they are normally buyer collects , you can sometimes pick up a real bargain

Good luck shopping

To be honest I don't find the sets especially in Argos of good standard.. Too rickety for my liking, not so much the cot but the cupboards. I bought a cot bed for 200 I think for my 2nd son (only need to take down the sides when he's older so saving money ther) an buying cupboards seperately...it might work out a Bit cheaper. Although I haven't a clue on prices these days, it's been a long time since I bought nursery stuff!

JJ mum - ill deffinatly look on ebay. Ive seen some bargins on other things so Ill have a look :)

Yodabo - I did think about buying it all seperatly, Ive got all the catalogues out and all the websites up. Ive noticed that you can get practically the same set of draws but from the adult section for less money. This makes no sense to me. I think about 200 or a bit less for a cot bed is about average :) think its the price ill be looking for.

I have bought all of my things so far second hand as i had a cousin and freind clearing out there baby bitsand i had gotten rid of all of mine. I know with a first it i nice to get all new especially if you plan to have more but i have always bought second hand and it means you can have more for less money. Charity shops are really good for bits and pieces with larger ones now stocking furniture. Ebay as already mentioned is good and in my area free cycle is fantastic and i have gotten loads of baby toys etc through that source already. Local newspapers with local adverts is probably the best place to get entire baby sets from but my favourite by far for a bargin and what i'm saving my money for is the bootsales. I went to three in a row when i was preggo with my first and bought everything bar a car seat and cot - do think they need to be new or matress at least. Baby clothes are particularly cheap and you get so many more, they are only worn for a short while when they are small so usually in good condition and it doesn't matter if you get behind with the washing!
Sorry for long reply bootsales and baby shopping get me all excited!!!!

evajo - i have freecycle in my area too!! Are you from Lancashire? Iv just got a babygate from freecycle :D

Hiya, i got a cotbed when i had my daughter from toys r us cant remember how much it was but im going to be using it again with this baby just gotta get new mattress. But do try getting chest of drawers or wardrobes from looking in the argos catalogue or ebay, im buying a 5+2 chest of drawers for £69.99 from argos. Look at reviews on the site before you think about buying things too :) good luck x
