on a local mummies Facebook page a few of the girls who have babies same age as mine are starting to breastfeed again.

our hospital has given them Domperidone (or something) and a hospital grade double pump. They have been expressing every 2 hours for 20mins for 2 days and already get 3oz with each pump!

they have been told to wait until they are literally dripping and to have lots of skin to skin with baby then they can go for it again, and supplement with formula after a feed, and the baby will take what it needs.

I am SO tempted to try this. I stopped feeding just before 3 weeks cause of loads of different problems, but I think that now I am not so hormonal, and I have caught up on my sleep i could handle the ups and downs better?

I would love to just give her a morning feed on the boob, and bottle the rest of the time.

her latch was most of the problem though, and she needed a quicker let down than I had.

my husband thinks I am opening myself up to a whole new world of hurt......

My LO had his tongue tie cut at 9 weeks and the midwife that did it recommended I try bf him (only tried it a few times on the day he was born) she said it was possible to start again and I was very tempted to try! I say go for it of its something you really want to do! X

Forgot to add I didn't try again and part of me will always feel sad that I didn't manage to bf x

I just pumped for 10mins using a hand pump and got clear fluid? Does that mean I can get my supply back easily?

If I were to pump every 2 hours, would that be 20mins on each breast?

Might be worth a try Lynds if you're determined :) Not sure if it's 20 mins per boob tho - sounds like quite a lot, but it may well be. I'm sure the instructions on my expresser say don't keep expressing if nothing is coming out after 5 mins, so be careful - you don't want to give yourself sore nips before you even start. Plus bear in mind these other women had drugs to help too... I'd take it slow, maybe 10 mins each boob to start and see how you get on? Good luck! xxx

If you are getting milk, and you want to do it, go for it!

Pump as often as you can and get loads of skin to skin. Let Freya try to latch on, as that will give your body the signals it needs to produce milk.

she latched on ok this morning with a nipple shield. But straight away she started screaming and it reminded me of the battles we went through before.

even when i was literally dripping and spurting milk, it just wasnt quick enough for her! it was one of the many reasons I stopped.

its made me think twice about starting it all again. I also dont want to damage my nipples anymore by over pumping them, i lost a part of one last time!

I need to have a very long hard think! x

I lose a chunk of my nipples every couple of days

Maybe try expressing a little before getting her to latch?

Please excuse any typos from my fat fingers!
Tapatalk madness!

My LO is only just over a week old and i feel so guilty because ive been bf less and less. She killed my nipples even though she latched on fine and was getting enough, mw said it was just my skin type etc that meant i would bruise and crack easier than normal. Ive been expressing but just cant seem to get it to work anymore so started using formula and getting her on the boob ever so often now they have healed. Im just worried im confusing her now or that my production has slowed down.

Think this is just a bit of a rant but how long does it usually take for milk to dry up? Xxx

Latching on shouldn't be painful past the first ten seconds, if it is then I would question weather the latch is correct a lot of HVs and MWs simply do not have the training to say that it is the type of skin is hard to believe, correct latch nipple cream an airing the nipples generally helps. It does take time for the nipples to toughen up a bit x

The flow may have Bowen too fast before? Now it may be too slow if she is used to a teat??

If you are determined I know it is possible with lots of skin to skin, pumping, latching on. But it will be tough hun xx
