Yes it is quite normal- also formula tends to make them more constipated anyway so this might account for it. Don't worry, it sounds like you're doing your best.
Sorry about your experience!!! I had exactly the same scenario with my first baby. Don't feel a failure... we don't need to put ourselves on guilt trips at a time like this. Do what makes you and your bunny (and OH too) happy. Happy baby - happy housie!!!!
