oh what a tough time you are having, so pleased he is making good progress and huge well done and pat on back for you keeping going with the breastfeeding / expressing while all this is going on - brilliant x

Sorry for delay in update. basically the treatment we thought was working wasn't.... His bloods came back up at 70+ for infection, he was sick again and generally not well. He then developed more spots with blisters on them and doctor was convinced it was HSV-1 or HSV-2 so started immediate treatment. We finally got the lab results back from Glasgow today and it is confirmed that Adam has HSV-1. He is therefore on the right treatment programme. The lumber puncture shows that he does not have the virus in the spinal fluid which is great news. Now they know what it is they now need to re-check the blood and see if the virus is in the blood and therefore at risk to organs etc. We really hope that it is only on the skin..... The treatment course takes a minimum of 14 days so we are both in hospital for the duration. I know I should not google but I did and the mortality rate is really high so I just pray that this has been caught, diagnosed and treated in time. The doc suggests that someone must have kissed my wee boy who has a cold sore and carrying the HSV-1 virus. I have no idea who but I really wish there was more awareness out there for new mums to know that this can happen to newborn babies. We all know how many people come to visit when you have a newborn baby and really this is the worst thing that can happen! This is a potentially fatal outcome surely I'm not the only new mum out there who had no idea?? I would wrap up your babies in cotton wool and dont feel bad about saying no to people holding and kissing your little bundles of joy. I dont know where else I should post this warning to?? Tri 3 perhaps??
Anyway - fingers crossed the bloods come back ok and my wee Adam makes a speedy recovery

oh hun :hugs: really hope he makes a speedy recovery i would deffinatly post this in tri 3 so that people are aware you wouldnt even think something would happen like whats happened to Adam. xxx

Agreed, post in Tri 3. I had heard about this in tri3. Youve all gone and are going through such tough tough times.

Heres to a speedy recovery    youre all being so brave. xxx

Oh my goodness! So many thoughts and prayers coming your way!

Newborns are so delicate but you are breastfeeding him so your body will be working extra hard to fight this with his little immune system (you could NOT be doing more for him, remember that x)

Will watch patiently for updates xxx

oh hun, i just want to give you so so many :hugs: really wishing him all the best, but do remember to look after yourself too, hes going to need you to be strong when he's better! :hugs: xxx

Really hope your poor little man makes a speedy recovery, your being so strong Hun big :hugs: to you. defiantly post in tri 3 xx

Oh poor you, I did not know that this could happen. You and your LO are in my thoughts and I pray he recovers quickly.

Oh I really hope he makes a speedy recovery! My thoughts are with you!

Have just spoken to my OH about this and he is a carrier! So he has been monitoring who touches Jasper really seriously since he was born! I am clearly immune as i dont catch it from him but he got it when he was three and said it was bad then (all down his throat!) More people should know about this!

so scary, hope everything is okay mama xx

Omg, how awful :hugs: I wish him a good speedy recovery, and wish you all well, it must be so hard :hugs: xx

So glad they have figured out what is wrong with your LO so they can treat him and get him well quickly. Really thinking of you all and my heart goes out to him, he sosunds like a little fighter.

Everyone thought I was so fussy because when Oz was newborn I wouldn't let anyone touch him unless they had washed!! I even thought I was neurotic but this proves you can't be too careful and people really should think before they handle others newborns.

Lots of love xxx

Ive only just seen this!
I hope Adam gets better soon.
I had no idea cold sores could cause serious problems in newborns.

I've only just seen this too!

Massive hugs to you hun!! I hope the treatment works
Thinking of you and your little man tonight!

X

How's adam this evening Hun? i hope he's improving :hugs: xx
