Breastfeeding Support Thread

anna marie change your doc if you can, if not go back and just tell him you have stopped breast feeding so you can have the fluconzole, shame you have to lie for it but it would be such a shame to stop because of something that can be cured so easily if doctors get their heads out of their arses and realise what medication to give for what! make sure you get mouth drops for baby too so you dont get it passed back again....and if you ever need to go back to the docs about breastfeeding you can always say, i felt bad about quitting, relactated and started again.. ;)

Hi girls

How is everyone

Anne Marie is your doc male of female, the later might be more likely to prescribe you what you need, as they tend to be more understanding about womens things, really hope you get it sorted soon the Bio yogurt like skatty surgested sounds like a good idea.

Cassi, You are doing sooo well big congrates, also you mentioned that Jakob gets bored due to slow flow have you tried conpression after you've had let down, I had to do this with lily for a bit as she used to get bored too.

well I'm feeling more alive today, lily was up and down 5 times on tuesday night (only confort feeding then falling straight to sleep) and only slept a total of an hour yesterday, she was shattered and grisly all day but would not sleep, I think she has teeth coming so we went and got some Ashton& Parsons as Bonjela isn't working, any way it must be good as she slept through again last night :D

Hi everyone! Yes Daggers you can get preggers without your periods returning hence that's why I am here so soon after my brother!!! I can't believe you are ready to do ita all again already, you are brave or just crazy

Anna Marie I hope you have got your thrush sorted.

Hope you are all ok, Leorah has just woken so I'm signing off already!

Hi Everyone, thanks for all your support, I was so hopeful that all would be well but sadly my breasts are no better and despite efforts to persuade doc he still will not give me the Fl... stuff - didnt try the "im not breastfeeding anymore" line though.. but I am sad to say I think I will be throwing in the towel.. I am rather angry and sad about it all but I have to stop beating myself up about it and just move on.

So... am gradually replacing each feed with formula and am only breastfeeding 2 or 3 times per day but to be honest even that is just so excruciatingly painful I think I will just stop altogether... anyone know how many days of engorgement I will suffer? I am planning to express the excess milk to ease the problem but just wondered how long it takes for the milk to dry up completely? Just want to know how long it will be before my breasts are not agony for one reason or the other!!

I know there are risks of mastitis if I stop suddenly hence the expressing idea.. any advice ladies?

Sorry if you think I am giving up too easily but I feel like enough is enough and I want to enjoy my daughter.. not dread feeding her!! :(

Hello, I think you have done well to carry on this long with thrush. Such a shame about the doctors. I am not sure how long it will take for the milk to stop completly. but expressing small amounts is a good idea.

Girls.. I have been feeling sick and ill today. been trying to rest but did not happen even though Oliver was with his gran. There is a bug going round but the thought of pregancy is always at the back of my mind when i feel ill!

Anna Marie, you have done so well, absolutely no need to feel guilty! I fed leorah for 8 mins this morning and I feel like my nipple is going to fall off and that's with the treatment!!! I hope you feel lots better soon

Oh Jadie! Would you like to be pregnant again? Perhaps you and Daggers will get pregnant at the same time!! I don't know where you girls get your energy from for nookie :rotfl: I really don't want to get pregnant again, the last pregnancy was great contraception for the future

zSuzx Hi! What is Ashtons and Palmers? Next time I go to the UK I want to stock up on baby meds and stuff cos you just can't get much here and I don't want to have to keep ringing my Mum to send stuff. I want to be fully prepared for the teething stage :)

Hi skatty

Ashton & parsons is a teething powder, and I have to say it works great, it has really helped lily.

It comes in packs of 20 sachets (you use half a sachet for under 6 months and a whole 1 if they are over 6 months).
It's completely herbal too so you can use it along with baby paracetamal if need (which I haven't since starting using it), It also helps with any tummy troubles caused by teething.

I only have to use it twice aday when lilys starting to get grisly with her gums and it seems to work really quickly.

xSuzx

That sounds great I will get some of that, is it from the health food shop? Thanks :)

You can get it from most chemists or a boots pharmacy ect, it's cheep too, it only costs about about £2.50-£3.

I've recommended it to some friends too and they've now been saying how great it is.

Hows everything else going Skatty?

xSuzx

Skatty... I dont think i would get Pg, I have no energy for nookie really! but if it happened I would not mind. but would like to wait a bit longer yet!

Hi Ladies

Just checking in to say hello and hope everyone is doing well and having a good weekend. :D

Hi everyone :D
xsuzx I am fine! loving being a Mum and Leorah is a good baby except has had a lot of digestion problems probably due to being early. Its not everyday but last night she had wind for hours and was screaming but this evening I have tucked her up on the settee and she's asleep. I'm going to try colycynth granules as some of the ladies on here have found them great for wind. How are you doing?

I'm sure you'll fall pregnant at just ther ight time jadie :) I will be quite excited when those of you that are having another baby get pregnant again :D

Hi Tina, how's Gabriella doing?

Hope you've all enjoyed the weekend. I haven't done anything exciting at all but am looking forward to the holidays as I have my Mum, step dad and younge3r brother coming over.

Hi Skatty and everyone

Poor Leorah, I hope the granules work. How cute that she is tucked up on the settee with you.

Gabriella is doing good thanks. She had her injections last Tuesday and was so good; she did cry but who could blame her.
Her skin is much much better now as well; It's just a little dry in the mornings.

She isn't sleeping as long in the evenings; she is going for about 4 hours, then 2 hours and then 3 or 4 hours.

She is definitely a much more contented baby now though and it's great..

Hope everyone has had a good weekend and lots of sleep.

Take care

Evening all! Also just popping to see how everyones weekend has been, glad to see that everything seems to be going smoothly! Anna Marie hope all is going well with regards to your move from boob to bottle, you shouldn't feel bad about doing this either, being a mother is suppose to be enjoyable and it sounds like you were going through a nightmare whenever it was feeding time, think you probably made a wise decision if your doc wasn't prepared to give you this other miricle drug!
Tina glad to hear that Gabriella is doing fine after having had her jabs, it's horrible and heart breaking when they get their jabs and their crying away - nearly broke out in tears myself!!!!
Well sounds like your gonna have a full house for crimbo Skatty! Actually so are we, guess it will be nice as you can get someone else to look after your LO for a bit! And no I'm not preggers not that i checked, I just think I had a bug - and man on Friday night I had the worst wind I've ever experinced in my life. It was funny and painful at the sametime, I won't discuss any further as I don't want to offend anyone but I'm glad it's over now and fortunately Oats didn't get it either -was worried he might get something through the breast milk.
Well night ladies hope y'all had a good weekend and a rest full night - btw Oats is now sleeping until after midnight (waking any where between 12:30 & 3am) and then again after 5am (anytime between 5- 7:30am!!!)!! so we've now gone from 3 to 2 wakes a night!!!!

Evening all!!

Daggers did you ahve a nice time with your MIL? I will be having my family here at Xmas but they have rented a holiday house so wont be staying, phew  I'm glad you are feeling better after your windy night! I bought colocynth for Leorah today and she has blowing away both ends!! Perhaps you should have got some for yourself even though Otis didn't need it :rotfl: Great about Otis's sleeping! Leorah doesn't sleep properly until about 11pm when DH feeds her, she'll sleep in the living room but wont settle in the nursery, she will then sleep anywhere between 3 and 5 hours and then for another 3. If its 5 hours I will get up after the second feed but if its 3 its a pain as I always feel really tired the next day. Once she isn't windy anymore we are going to work on her getting to bed earlier.

I'm glad Gabriella is more content now Tina, I'm finding it the same. I think its partly because I can undersatnd some of her language better now. She is always so happy, especially in the mornings, I love our mornings as she is so smiley and playful! What time does gabriella go to bed? If I put Leorah to bed earlier she would definitely wake more, she really doesn't like mmissing out on the evening action! Once again she is asleep on the settee, yet if we had put her to bed she'd be screaming :wall:

I have a BF question as well today. When I feed leorah I usually have so much milk that she only gets the watery bit (I presume). I sometimes pump the rest so that she can have some thicker milk when DH feeds her but how can I make sure she s getting the nutritious bit? If I pump before a feed my boobs will keep making too much and TBH I can't be bothered pumping anymore than 4oz for her bottle from DH. She is putting on weight but she has very dry pimply skin and I wonder if its because shye is not getting enough fatty milk. MY HV is crap as long as she puts on weight and looks cute that's all that seems to matter with her

Hi all

Skatty is it her face where the skin is pimply or over her body? are they a creamy colour if so it's proberly due to hormones from your milk this is quite normal, lily has some on her nose (and used to be on her cheeks too) and they are only just starting to disappear.

Try not to worry about if she's getting enough of the hind milk as she's proberly getting enough of both :D , if she wasn't she wouldn't be gaining enough weight (I too worried about lily getting the right amount of each cause I made loads too but it all works itself out).

I think normally after let down most the milk after that is the, creamy hind milk.

xSuzx

Thanks xsuzx! Last night I had another problem, I woke up to feed Leorah at about 4am which is normal and my right breast was really painful and engorged. I fed from that breast but also had to get up and express nearly 4oz just to get a bit of relief and it was still hard and painful,. In the end i took 2 paracetomel but I feel so down. I thought I had this breastfeeding lark sorted but have had and still possibly have thrush? I am worried I am getting mastitis. I am also worrying about Leorah dropping a night feed. My brain doesn't seem to be sending the right message to my breasts. I don't want to pump as it will make more milk, its like a vicious circle. I just had a hot shower and the milk poured out. I'm going to have to take 2 more paracetomel now (left breast is hurting too!) I have the mother group coming to my house at 10am and all I want to do is curl up and sleep! What makes it all worst is I keep having a reccurring dream that DH has an affair. Its really vivid and I am really angry in it, its obviously not a restful sleep and I wake up angry, I even had a go at him this morning :(

Sorry for the depressing post but knowing my hormones I'll be swinging from the chandelier later

Hiya skatty. How are you now? Please becareful it does sound like you may be getting mastitis. If you begin to feel any worse go to the doctors. (flu like symtons). Keep feeding even if it really hurts as this helps to clear it up!

The dreams are proberly because you dont feel well. I have nice dreams at the minute but always end the same......a baby crying!! LOL

jade

Hello agian... Did not mean to ingore every one eles but wanted to post quickly and get a shower before Oliver woke up! He is having a lay in today!

How is every one else?

Jade

Hi all

Skatty Like Jadie says it does sound like the begining og mastitis, if your still in pain I'd go to the docs even if you feel ok, they can sometimes be useless but they might help with some antibiotics to prevent it becoming worse.

Heres a few tips I try when I get mastitis, you proberly already do them but will put them anyway.
if your breast are uncomfortable
1 encorage little one to feed weather they are due for a feed or not ( it doesn't do them any harm)

2 express just enough to relief pressure (I've found that after encoraging let down they feel alot better), I'd leave this as a very last resort as can encorage more milk production.

3 Massage the affected breast, esp the part that is most painful, this is uncomfortable but is more effective at reliving pressure then expressing with a pump. you can catch to milk in a container and store it for later use.

4 Have a warm bath or shower, this helps ease pain and improve circulation which helps combat infection. I also find this a great place to massage them using a warm flannel, or just letting the shower spray on them.

5 massaging the affected area while feeding helps empty the effected duct more efficiatly.

6 Change feeding possitions regularly ( i found the rugby hold good for this)

7 I you can sleep with out a bra, i know this can be messy. I find putting damp cold flannels on me instead of wearing a bra more comfortable.

8 DRINK LOTS OF FLUIDS AND GET PLENTY OF REST this is the best way to flush out and help your body's immune system fight infection.

I really hope you start feeling better again soon.

xSuzx

P.S I have had loads of weird dreams since having lily, I thinks because we sleep lighter with having a baby that wakes i the night and are mor selfconsious after having a baby, men have it easy don't they
