Breastfeeding Support Thread

:rotfl: Haha Daggers! i thought you were giving new meaning to the phrase jugs having all that milk stored up! Mine are ready to burst when they have 4½" ounces and they are huge, I thought you must have been Pammy Anderson storing that up :rotfl:

Unfortunately I had a bad night with Leorah last night, he vomited her laktalose and panodil up and we didn't give her more as we obviously don't want her to OD! Well they must usually work because last night was hell on earth again. I can't bare to hear her scream like that  She has been going 4/5 hours during the night quite often now but I'm a little worried because her feeds also sometimes only last about 6 mins. I know my milk comes out fast but if she is not getting enough and loses weight we will have to go back to hospital and I hate it there  I see my HV on Wednesday but the dozy moo has arranged it for 2pm which is when she has also invited me to a mother and baby group :? I have called her and she hasn't rang back, seems like HV are the smae the world over

Jade I totally agree with you about 18 degrees! I think my house is cold when its at 18 degrees so surely its too cold for a baby. Its winter here now and freezing (well to me, we still have a lot worst to come!). Does anyone know if its ok that Leorah wears a vest, bodysuit and a 3.5 tog gro bag? Her body is warm but her leittle hands and nose are so cold! What can I do about that ????

Hey Skatty Mrs Moo here! :rotfl: This morning I nearly drowned Oats feeding him and just had to express some supa juice - nearly 4oz and then there was still enough for him to drink - at least it wasn't dripping all over him then!
Sorry to hear about Leorah having a bad night, I guess it's gonna take a while for things to settle after all she is still a wee baba, give her a hug and a kiss from Otis and me  , hope she'll start feeling better real soon.
I'm going to my first mother and baba session - thought it was high time I join the rest of the new moms and especially being in a new area where I know no one hopefully I'll meet some moms on the same wave lenght as me :) .
Re baby night wear I've been putting Oats in a sleeper suit and a 2.5 tog grobag, when it has been colder he did have cold hands but I guess I'd rather him be a bit on the cool side then too hot. I do check the back of his neck if I'm a bit worried and otherwise have occasionaly popped a blanket over him. Also I presume that if their not comfortable i.e to cold or to hot they'll let you know by crying?

Hi Girls

I agree I think 18 degrees feels to cold at this time of year we normally have our thermastat (sp) set at 25 degrees that normally feels about right for us.

You will no if babs is to hot as they will sweat and their skin will feel clamy, so as long as that doesn't happen they should be fine.

Skatty sorry Leorah had such a bad night I hope she has a better one tonight.

Daggers 4oz of milk is a fab amount to express, When I express after a feed I manage about 1-2oz but I don't really express that often only when I'm going out without her and I know OH will need to feed her.

Tina have the dr's given you anything or any advise on Gabriellas exzema?

It's nice that this thread has picked up again and I thing you are all doing brilliantly.

Thanks for the replies. Last night she came off on her own again and was only on for 8mins. I think I will try taking her off if she goes into that mode of drinking for more than 2mins. I am now taking a watch in with me when I go to feed so I can tell how long I have been there for.

I am starting to express of a portion of milk after her morning feed to freeze down ready for going back to work. I want to build up a supply for the first day or so until I get into a routine and know how much she is taking and expressing that amount off while at work. I am only getting 2oz off though each time. Well done on getting 4oz in one go incredible!

Skatty, when Ellie's colic was bad, she couldn't feed for more than 5mins before coming off my breast in pain. I was really worried as it got to the point when the majority of feeds in one week were only 5mins long. However when they weighed her she had gained 8oz that week :rotfl: I am sure she is getting enough.

Hi Ladies

Oh Daggers; you do make me laugh.. Mrs Moo :rotfl:

I also have Gabriella in a vest, sleepsuit and 2.5 tog grobag and she seems comfortable.

Suz; No more advise from Dr's but the oilatum and cream has really cleared it up. I am not convinced it is eczema but just a baby rash....

Well I am off to express now as taking Gabriella to be registered tomorrow (can you believe that; she is 7 weeks already and doesn't have a birth certificate  )

Take care all; happy feeding, expressing and lots of restful nights

Evening ladies! Mrs Moo here (again!) please don't think I'm trying to show off or anything like that (I'm really not that sort of person) but I thought I just had to let you know that I've just hit another record on the milking front.... managed just over 5oz from one boob tonight  !! God only knows what my boobs are going to look like if this carries on - to be honest I'm starting to get quite concerned now - my poor baba will probably be drowned next time he's ready for a feed  . Also I'm now starting to think about donating some boobie milk to the hospital, anyone can further advise me on how this might work?
Otherwise I hope y'all have a good night and that you and your LO's sleep soundly
Over and out ... Mrs Moo :moon:

Hi

Daggers, sorry Mrs Moo  (well done btw) - here's a website giving lots of information about milk donation. The criteria is that your baby is under 6 months of age, you don't have more than 2 units of alcohol a day and no more than 7 cups of caffeine a day.

http://www.ukamb.org/about.htm

I also put Olivia to bed in a vest, sleepsuit and 2.5 tog sleepsuit and her room is 20 degrees (but feels a little cooler). Watch out for those ice cold hands in the midst of winter - torture!

Hi Girlies!

Mrs Moo( :rotfl: ) that is such a great idea about donating the breastmilk! I want to find out if I can do it over here. I express 4 oz in the morning so DH can give Leorah a bottle and the later in the day I often express a couple of ozs before a feed to make sure she gets some hind milk, which I throw away, so wasteful! the thing is I have frozen some for an emergency but because the milk changes as baby gets older I don't think there is any point in me doing anymore as she is always with me so it doesn't get used. I have started rotaing and defrosting 2 a week and replacing them with new. How many do you think I need as an emergency back up???

Today is my first Mother and Baby group, how did yours go Daggers? This one is held by my HV and there are 6 of us and we all live around this little village I'm in which is strange because I am always out and about walking and have never seen anyone else with a very young baby!

How is gabriella Tina? My little brother had baby eczema and it dissappeared suddenly and very quickly. Leorah's skin is a bit bumpy now, I want her smooth perfect skin back :( What is worst is that I was told its caused by the hormones in my milk! I am still very hormonal, is anyone else? I am so snappy with the DH and one day I'll be on top of the world and another day so miserable I can't find the words to desribe how miserable I am :rotfl: It does tend to depend on how much sleep I got and how much pain Leorah has been in.

I'm abit nervous as the HV will be weighing Leorah today. She sometimes only feeds for 5 mins now and even though she was up crying in pain every hour through the night last night she only fed once. There is no way we are staying in that awful hospital again!

I hope you all have a lovely day

Hi Ladies

How are you all?

Skatty, how did Leorah get on at the clinic? Is her weight ok?

I just expressed and I think I am becoming Mrs Moo now :rotfl: I did 4oz in 5 mins and could have done more only I only had a 4oz bottle......

Gabriella slept for 5 and a half hours last night; that was a record :cheer: It decreased to every 2 hours though as she was having trouble pooing and was in a bit of pain. She is fine today though.
How is Leorah getting on with that now??

Gabriella has her 8 week check next Tuesday and injections; I am not looking forward to it. :(

She is also going to her first party on SUnday, our best friends boys 1st birthday, how cute!

Hope everyone is well and talk soon

Just wanted to say well done to everyone and my advice to you all is have confidence in you and your body to nourish and feed your babies. There aren't many Doctors with a great knowledge of breastfeeding and even less HVs etc so if in doubt please do contact a bf councellor or organisation (such as La Leche League, NCT, Breastfeeding Network, Association of Breastfeeding Mothers etc).

I wont be around much anymore so just wanted to say all the best to you all.

Take care

Lucy

Aww Lucy we will miss you hun.

Thanks for all your advice and support.

Be sure to pop back to say hi.

Oh no Lucy! You have been such a great support to us new Mums, we will miss you! try and come back when you can

I am happy to say that leorah seems a lot better! Now she is though I have realised she really needs to go to her own room, she thinks its playtime in bed! All this crying and I thought she was in pain until I turned on the light about 2am and she styarted grinning at me! Later it was confirmed with a pooless nappy! I hope Gabriella has had no more probs on that department. Tankett recommended diluted apple juice and I must say it worked a treat

i went to my first mother group and now have some friends where I live :cheer: Its quite funny because I don't think any of us have much in common but our babies and it reminded me of when you first start school and try and discreetly check out who you want as your special friend! Lucky for me there was another Mum that speaks fab english and is down to earth and wants to get fit so I have my buddy! In fact we are all going for a long walk on Monday, that will be funny 6 prams and power walking Mums

I have also been to the doc about my thrush agaibn and have something beginning with F to clear it up! She checked out my scar and told me I am free to start exercising when I think I am ready so I am starting to build up my fitness to start running again. I can't believe how unfit I have got, an hours walk tires me out now yet I úsed to walk accross London so i wouldn't have to use public transport and think nothing of it!

I hope you are all doing well x

I am well skatty. I remenber going to the first baby groups. I felt quite confident. Before having Oliver i would have never gone to any groups (of course not baby ones but you know what I mean!) I go to a group nearly every day!

Leorah will get into a ruotine again! I am so glad she is so much better now!

:) hello i am trying to give up breastfeeding my daughter who is seven and a half months tomorrow, and finding it hard to stop. i love doing it but i don't want to rely on it. as at the moment i breastfeed morning and night. and also my breasts have come really sore and painfull. i am stuck, any advice

No advice I'm afraid but wanted to say well done, 7½ months breastfeeding is fantastic! I also have painful breasts and have been diagnosed with thrush, get shooting pains when I feed and in between.

sorry, i cant help either with the stopping but well done for the last 7 and a half months! does your little one need you to feed them to settle in the night?

has the pain just started.

jade and oliver, so only typing with one hand!

Hi everyone, I hope you've all had a good weekend, looks like its been quiet here! I have had a screaming baby all W/E!! Leorah ahs been suffering from wind pains (if its not one thing its another!) We stopped giving her the infacol because of the other stuff she's been taking so now we have started the infacol again so hopefully will see some improvement soon. DH worked all weekend including the night so I am exhausted! Good news is Leorah has gone to sleep in her own bed in her own room without any probs at all :)

BTW I fed Leorah walking around a supermarket! Yes me! My DH couldn't believe it but like I said to him it was less conspicuous than a screaming baby haha! Went without hitch until she let go gasping for air really loudly from suffocating in my huge melons :rotfl:

Evening all! Ghee it's been awhile since I last logged on, had my mother over since Thursday evening, she just went back to Holland today and my MIL will be arriving tomorrow afternoon - it's all systems go here!!!
Skatty soory to hear you've had a rough weekend! Glad that pooing seems to be getting better but that the winding is still a problem, it does seem to be one thing after another - welcome to motherhood I guess!!! Otis had the first of his jabs on Thursday, poor little mite was asleep at the time and was none to pleased when he got the first injection and when the second one was administered his crying went up a few more octives!!!!
My mother and baba session last week was okay, it was nice being with other mothers if even for a short while. The next one is tomorrow (Monday) but as my MIL would have just arrived I don't think I'll be able to attend! Which is a pity as I think it's the last of the sessions. None the less I've signed myself up for a 3 week baby massage course starting in January - really looking forward to that , can't believe Otis will nearly be 4 months by then  holy cow how time flies!!!
Skatty go on you BFing in the shops, not sure I'd have guts to do that - in the park yeah, but your brave not sure it would be looked upon to keenly here in the UK! By the way how was your mother and baba session?
Isn't it great having Leorah in her own room, you I some times can hardly wait for it to be 5/6am knowing Otis will wake soon and then I can pop him in to our bed for the last stretch before getting up, his little smilie face when I go to pick him up!
