Hi everyone! Good to see you back Daggers, sounds like you are busy with visitors, hope its not toos tressful but nice to see your Mum! Poor Otis having his injections, Leorah was supposed to have her first today and we completely forgot  I must say I am kind of glad as she is suffering with wind at the mo' and is so whingey! apparantley they are even worst after the jabs, have you noticed this with Otis?

The mother group was good, I went walking with a couple of Mums today and we have another group in the morning. I must admit I don't have much in common with them and its especially awkward with the language but its so nice to get out of the house and have people to do stuff with here as I don't know anyone!

That massage course sounds great, perhaps you'll be able to pass some tips to us

Hi Cassi, how is your breastfeeding coming on? Poor you having a colicky baby, Leorah cn be quite whingey so I know how it is. I hate it when I can't work out why she is crying but she is a bugger for getting overtired and not being able to settle. Let me know how the gripe water is, I am using infacol again which works really well. I think the trick is to get the wind up by burps otherwise the air travels down and gets trapped in the intestines and causes pain.

Daggers did you try the colocynth?

Well girls good luck with tonight, lets hope we all get some sleep

Hi Ladies

Sorry I haven't been on in a few days.

Skatty, sorry to hear Leorah is suffering with colic again; I hope the infacol helps. Gabriella is a nightmare for napping and gets herself overtired as well. You see that she is so tired and her eyes are closing but she opens them again, it's as if she is frightened of missing out.

Daggers hope you had fun with your Mum; how did the injections go for Otis?
Gabriella has hers tomorrow and her 8 week check; I am so nervous about her injections.

Cassi; how is the breastfeeding going? Sorry to hear Jakob is colicky; hope he is over it soon.

I've had trouble expressing this weekend; I wanted to get some milk as I was going to a 1st birthday party yesterday and I really struggled to get some out. I am hoping that my supply is ok and it was just that I wasn't really in the mood.
Also Saturday was my birthday and a friend offered to babysit for a couple of hours so we could go out; I expressed some milk for Gabriella and ended up knocking it all over :wall: so unfortunately I didn't end up going out.

Take care all and speak soon

Hi Everyone, only just discovered this thread... gosh I wish I had seen it weeks ago.... breastfeeding support is such a fab thread to do.. well done all of you still breastfeeding despite all the problems some of you have and are still experiencing... its such a wonderful thing for us mums to do but boy is it problematic sometimes...

Here goes.... I went to the docs today with really painful breasts.. sore nipples with white marks [blisters?] on the end and shooting burning type pains within the nipple area in the breast.. god its all painful and feeding from the breast is almost unbearable but the doc prescribed Daktarin Oral Gel so that I can use it and continue to breastfeed.. has anyone used this? does it work?? I so want to continue breastfeeding but I really cannot imagine doing so whilst in so much pain.. but if the gel works I will hang in there...

Would love to hear from anyone who has used this gel or had similar symptoms / diagnosis..?

take care all of you xx

Evening mommies!
Hiya Anne Maire, sorry I can't help you with your sore boons but think Skatty may hav had something simular - Skatty???
Tina so sorry to here you knocked over your booby milk!!! , hope you've managed to express some more milk and that it's going okay, maybe you should just try and express everyday for 5-10mins or so just to ensure that in future you don't have any problems, I just freeze all my extra milk. By the way HAPPY (belated) BIRTHDAY!!!
Skatty your lucky to have found some other mom's you can hang around with, I'm still on my tod - looking for some sympathy here..... !! Still need to find my feet here, maybe I should see what other mother & baby groups are going on, will check this on Thursday when Otis goes for his next weigh in I'll ask the health visitors.
Otis seems to be okay after his jabs, think he was a bit miserable and not quite himself but I don't think having my mom here and now my MIL helps as he doesn't then stick to his usual routine. Like today he didn't have his usual 3-5 nap so come bath time (5:30) he was so cranky - hate to see him cry, his poor little bottom lip quivering away  . Still he my little angel!
Skatty what is Colocynth? Why?
Well hope y'all have a good night and that the babas have a restful sleep , .

Hi this is just a quickie so I will catch up later but just want to let Anna Marie know that I have thrush too with exactly the same symptons and the cream didn't help! I ahve now been given two capsules to be taken a week apart so I have had one and have had a slight improvement and I take another on Thursday. Its bl**dy painful isn't it? I am also eating bio yoghurt which is supposed to help. I think you shoukld go back to your doc and tell him its so painful you need something that works from the inside or you will have to give up breastfeeding!! I will find out the name of what I was given and tell you later

Skatty what is Colocynth? Why?

I know I am not Skatty, but they are homeopathic crystals which some people find help with colic. I did try getting some but couldn't find a source locally. Some people have found them in boots but our boots is quite a small one so didn't do them.

I have been putting the Daktarin stuff on and you are right Skatty.. no difference so far but only day one of using it... to be honest the pain is so severe when Lara is feeding that I really don't think I can persevere.. I am seriously considering giving up today.. I am so depressed about it all as I really love breast feeding but it seems just too stressful and the pain is so intense.

Please don't think of me as a defeatest / failure.. I really have tried to keep going despite all sorts of problems along the way but this thrush is kinda the last straw for me.. I just keep bursting into tears when i think about it and just dread feeding times due to the pain.

Skatty did you carry on feeding whilst using the gel? did you wash your boobs before feeding her or is the gel ok for LO ?? What about expressing ... perhaps I could express at least to keep my supply up and see how my boobs are after a couple of days then maybe try direct feeding again.. I have introduced some formula feeds as her weight gain was not enough and HV advised formula feeds as well as some breast.

If I am to give up breast feeding how bad is the engorgement and how long does it last??

sorry guys I know I should be strong but I really am so down about all this.. and the stress is bound to rub off on little Lara.. when I feed her with the bottle I am in tears cos I miss the closeness but I have to do what is best for both of us. :( :(

Yeah I thought it was you that was getting the colocynth but it must have been someone else. I was wondering what exactly they are for. Does anyone kno if they are good for wind pains because I am in Copenhagen tomorrow and may be able to get some.

Happy late birthday Tina  Gutting about the milk :x I can also have a boob full of milk but if I'm not relaxed I find it hard to express. Leorah is exactly the same as Gabriella with the eyes opening when falling asleep, its a nightmare isn't it? I have a thread on the routines part asking advíce on bedtime as its so tiring!!

Yes Daggers it is nice to have some other Mum's to hang about with a bit but they talk so fast in danish I can't keep up! We are going out walking again on Thursday and next Tuesday its my turn to hold the mother and baby group. Shame we don't all live nearby each other isn't it? :)

Early on I had really bad pain from one breast while feeding Ellie. It wasn't too bad to express so for about 48 hours I expressed from that side and gave Ellie my expressed milk. Thankfully that was enough to let it recover. You could try that?

Hello Ladies

Oh the thrush sounds really painful, I hope it goes for you both soon, not nice. I sometimes get shooting pains in my boobs but I thought this was the let down, it can be quite painful.

Thanks for the birthday wishes.

Daggers I have decided to try and express every day or at least every other day so I have a supply, then at least I won't have to go through that again.

Gabriella had her 8 week check today and she was a little angel. She cried when she had her injections but who wouldn't. She has been quite sleepy all day but she still gave me a lovely smile earlier. God I love her so much I could just squeeze her :D
She now weighs 10lb 3oz so she is doing really well.

Oh and well done Skatty on feeding Leorah in the supermarket; you are superwoman, not sure I could do it walking around, I might give it a go in Morrisons tomorrow :rotfl: :rotfl:

Bye for now all and have a good night

Anna Marie, so sory to hear about the pain you've been going through! You know at the end of the day you've got to do what you think is best if you are finding the BFing all to painful & stressful then maybe calling it a day is the best thing, at least Laura has had a lot of goodness from you. I do hope that maybe with the advice Skatty gave (re the tablets) your doc could subscribe some for you as well, either way don't let it drag you down you're doing your best and that's all that matters!
Skatty yes you are right I did want to look into the Colo.... but as I think I was just getting all worked up for nothing - Otis was and is BFing just fine I decided not to further investigate. You're damed right it's a bptiy you don't live closer - or any for the other mommies on the forum as far as I can see, I'd love to get together with y'all!
Man today has been a bit of a downer, been feeling really pants, woke up at 4am to feed Otis and was feeling nausious - after reading Frans news thought I might be pregnant as well!! , my back was also in pain - think it might be our new matrass :x , and then started feeling like I was coming down with a cold. Being the idiot that I am I then decided to walk into town with my MIL! And felt even worse when I got home  . Presently getting some chicken soup on the go and then I'm off to bed- Please don't let me get ill  , really couldn't handle that at the mo!!!

Oh Daggers I hope you are ok.

Sunday night I felt really ill and like I was coming down with something, I felt all shivery and like I wanted to be sick when I went to bed. I was eventually sick (very sick :puke: ) and felt a bit better for it. Still felt a bit yuk yesterday but feel much better today, must have been a 24 hour thing.

Hope you feel ok hun

*I couldn't help myself checking just this one thread because I feel so strongly about women getting breastfeeding support....

Anne Marie, if you want to give up breastfeeding then that's ok but if you can hold out with the pain for a while longer go to the docs and demand they give you Fluconazole. If necessary print out this page : http://www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/information/thrush.php If you speak to any bf councellor they always recommend Fluconazole to treat thursh

I had thrush when Olivia was 3 wks old and like yourself I was so close to giving up. I cried and cried and had such a hard time enjoying my newborn baby. After 2 days of taking the fluconazole I felt much much better (even though it was a 7 day course).

It's so hard to keep focussed on breastfeeding sometimes so do remind yourselves of the benefits you are giving yourself and your babies.:
To name a few..... If you breastfeed you will have less risk of pre-menopausal breast cancer, ovarian cancer and broken bones due to osteoporosis in later life.
Babies who are breastfed are less likely to suffer illnesses, including gastro-enteritis in infancy, allergies in childhood and heart disease in adulthood.

Lucy

p.s I also wanted to say that having been through many growthspurts with Olivia, I know that it seems never ending at the time but it does pass. Bfing now is sooo quick, easy and convenient although I never thought I would make it past 6 wks!

Anna Marie, I'm so sorry we must have posted at the same time yesterday! didn't mean to ignore you!

Firstly yes you can keep the cream on your nips while feeding as baby can get thrush from yopu and keep passing it back and fourth. I express too asnd sometimes find its worst on the nipple than baby but the shooting pains are better. I am still getting pain but nowhere near as bad after taking my capsule and can definitey breastfeed so please get down to the doc! I have the same stuff as Lucy reccommended, I'm sure you wont have to gve up BF, especially as you don't want to. My doc actually told me to keep on with the BF, I don't know if its meant to help in some way. It sounds like you will be even more upset if you give up, try expressing for a day, you may get on well with it.

Daggers I'm all excited! Did you rule out the possibility of another baby Daggers or is it still a possibility? I hope you wont be ill.

Tina I know what you mean about the smiling! I caught Leorah's on camera yesterday, yippee! It got me threw yesterday evening when she couldn't sleep, when I got annoyed I just thought of the lovely smiles that are always directed to Mummy. Its great because it sends me straight to her without a heavy cloak of stress as it makes me remember that she isn't trying to be annoying, she just needs some help from Mum or Dad :)

breastfeeding is going okish i guess its just a pain still having to give the bottles and he always falls asleep on my breast cause its such hard work and he is used to the bottles...im staying with my sister at the moment so when i get back home im gonna stock up and spend a week on the sofa weaning out the day bottles...the only bottle i want to eventually be giving him is his 4am dream feed because i have inverted nipples it wouldnt be feasable to dreamfeed him because he has to be wide awake and alert to latch i couldnt just put it in his mouth while he is still asleep as i can with a bottle if you see what i mean.

im also going too go back to the bf clinic in rbh nicky if you are going back anytime we could meet up maybe?

I bought a book from waterstones yesterday its everything you need to know about breastfeeding and it look really good, i havnt got round to reading it yet though but looks like it covers about everything.

I hope everyone is doing ok, last night after Jakob was screaming with constipation he finally settled to sleep at 1am and slept till 7am!! i woke up to his cry and thought 4am feed then and then i noticed it was much lighter than usually and it was 7am! :cheer: and he is on my lap at the moment and just settled into his morning nap, rest assured the breast sent him to sleep lol...

I caught his smile on camera today too!!!! finally! a big gummy one too :D

Anne marie im sorry you are in so much pain hun, but please get to the docs and demand fluoconzole it will work and you will feel much better in no time, i have seen alot of posts about people getting thrush and it hurts so much they think about giving up then they get fluconzole and it clears up and they are happy they stuck with it. keep putting the cream on but i dont think doctors yet realise thrush needs to be treated from the inside too not just the outside! print off the link lucy gave you and dont leave without it ;) i hope everything goes ok for you hun xx

My doc would not give me fluconzole.. something about not OK if still breastfeeding... I guess he is not licensed or just wont give it.. I will carry on with the gel for a couple more days and see - if still as bad I will demand something else as I really am finding it hard to breastfeed with so much pain so am feeding for 20 - 25 mins and then topping up with formula to give my breasts a bit of a break.

I don't want to give up but I just cannot bear the pain at the moment.

x

Anna Marie, I have only been given a small dose of fluconzole one capsule and then another a week later and this is safe for breastfeeding. I have to say today I have had hardly any pain at all. It would be such a shame to have to give up BF when lots of people on here have had the medication and cleared the thrush up. Can you see another doc? Also I swear bio yoghurt helped before I got the capsules. I don't know if paracetomel will help with the pain. You are doing really well, Leorah's feeds only last 10 mins max but that is enough so to go for 25 mins is amazing

It's amazing the difference between what one doctor will prescribe and the other! Anna Marie can't believe your doc won't prescibe what everyone else seems to be getting to cure their thrush :wall: ! Still I think it's great that you're still preservaring through all the pain, I hope things will start getting better soon  .
Skatty no haven't checked cause it's probably nothing other than a bug - sort of sounds like what Tina had, I haven't been sick but have had the chills and still feeling a bit nausious throughout the day. After reading Frans good news it's probably just wishful thinking on my behalf, besides can you still get preggers if your period hasn't come back yet -
ignorance on my behalf ?
Also if your ill does it affect the amount of breast milk you produce? Just does feel like my boobs are filling as much as they were previously - then again think Oats is going through a growth spurt and is drinking more as well.
Oh yes Cassi awesome to hear that Jakob seems to be sleeping through - well for longer, think we still have a way to go before we get there :? .

Anne Marie have you contracted Beanie? She knows more than me. Even if you stop feeding you will need the other treatment for the thrush. Dont just stop, If you cant bear too feed her then keep expressing other wise you will become engored and risk getting masitsis. (SP) you really need to speak to a health professional. for the thrush you need some thing beginning with F! you need to treat your self and your baby.

hope every one eles is well? I keep missing the posts on here!
