Breastfeeding in public. Tips needed :-)

I'm quite shy but when you are desperate needs must! I whipped my boob out and fed my lo in the mens shoe section of Primark, classy haha, there were lots of men wandering about it was a bit awkward.

I read somewhere that it is actually illegal for someone to ask you to stop breastfeeding, that makes me feel more confident!

Also,my Ikea has a 'baby oasis' in the cafe where you can b/feed with a bit of privacy, I assume all Ikea's have them so if you have one of those local they may be worth a visit, if you just want to get out!

Buggy that's brilliant. Whipping the boob out in the men section of primark! I bet they were more embarrassed than you.

have to say its getting easier and I really don't mind getting them out now. I think you are so concentrated on feeding your LO that you don't think of much else. Actually now I have to remember to put them away after! ;-)

Do this all the time at home, ill be making a cuppa or putting washing on & notice I'm still hanging out haha x

Haha Sara. So true. My husband has to remind me that my boobie is still hanging out!!

Nearly opened the door to the postman with a boob still out!!

Having breastfed two now I can safely say the baby themselves have a lot to do with it.

My first was on a mission to expose me, she'd literally push herself backwards off me when she was finished with no warning. She was also a pain in the bum to get on in the first place, a fidget, not putting her arm in the right place...all things to make feeding in public discreetly a real challenge.

This time I bought a bebe au lait cover, but find it more of a hindrance. I use it at my parents cos of dad. But I've given up using it out and about.

But ds is an angel at breastfeeding discreetly compared to dd. Latches on nice a quickly with on fuss at all! Comes off so far and snuggles up to my boob so I can pull my bra back up without exposure. He's a star! Hope he keeps it up :-)

I was at a cafe with 5 other breastfeeding mummies. I have a Bebe au lait shawl, 2 others used their pashminas, another whipped her boob about without a glimmer of self-consciousness and the others did the 2 top method.

Safe to say we scared off any male that walked to that part of the cafe.

Sorry to gatecrash ladies, but what do you suggest I do about breastfeeding in public. My stepson is ten years old is there anyway I can get around this when baby is born. I don't really want him seeing me or his friends, or for example when we go out for lunch at lo needs feeding.

Don't go out for lunch until you get some sort of routine?

My lo is 5 weeks, we went out for lunch yesterday, I didn't want to feed in a restaurant (I don't feel it's right), but I fed him before we left and he slept the whole time at the restaurant so I didn't have a problem. I do find when we're out and about he sleeps a lot more than he would if we were just at home, so usually goes the 3 hours between feeds.
