Breastfeeding help please

Yeah, don't think you'll need painkillers hun.
Tbh all you need is your boobies and a hungry baby :) xx

Thanks to this site I used the cream religiously after every feed and have never got cracked nipples so far! I take ibuprofen and/or paracetamol if I'm sore so I'd have them around, most people do anyway cos you prob need them for a few days after the birth depending on how that goes :). Oh one thing that can be odd is that breast feeding will cause your uterus to contract, you might feel it as a mild contraction, or just get a gush of lochia ( the post natal blood). It's all normal so don't panc if it happens but it caused me to soak through my pjs a couple of times when I was still in hospital.

Oh yes, forgot about the uterine contractions. Another benefit of bf is that the uterus shrinks back to it's pre pregnancy size a lot quicker than in those who bf. the down side to this is that you'll feel some aches and mild discomfort as this happens.
It is also soooo true about your loss, I could feel it coming out quickly during a feed but my loss had stopped completely after two weeks of bf x

This was true for me too, I only bled for 2 weeks and I had an episiotomy! I also got down to a reasonable weight pretty quick, half a stone to loose to be back to pee preg weight by 2-3 weeks. And back into pre peg clothes very quickly. All of which input down to bf.
oh the other thing I meant to say was take more of the support you can access. We had probs a couple of times and midwives came round, I went to drop in breast feeding clinics and even back to the mlu one night when we had big probs and 3 midwives sat with us to try and help us for 3 h. Do any queries when you go home, phone the mlu! There really is so much help male sure you exhaust that before giving up, sometimes it is something do simple that makes allvthecdifference! Xx

Yes again!!! The weight loss is amazing. I'm always thinner and my stomach is flatter when I'm feeding. I never seen to be able to get the same flat stomach when I'm not feeding. I love that about bf xxx

Stay away from the formula. I had the most horrific start with BF this time. I had no milk as had a traumatic delivery and a blood transfusion which meant my milk didn't come in until well into my 4th day. My lo was having blood sugar checks to make sure he was ok. he was so unsettled and constantly crying and feeding. I had fantastic support from the midwives although I just cried for the majority of the time. My nipples bled, I was in pain, my poor baby lost a full pound of his birth weight. I could easily have said pass me the bottle but I remembered that I WANTED to breastfeed and I am so glad that I did. there's nothing better. Once we got into the swing of things everything fell into place it was fantastic. Enjoy the ride and hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones who has no problems at all. xxxx

Thanks for all the advice ladies, you really have helped. I will give it my best shot and I think the biggest thing I now need to overcome is my own embarrasment lol. Getting my boobies out in front of my family, especially my 2 teenage sons will be a huge hurdle for me and I guess I will be feeding in the bedroom quite alot. I think I will buy myself a manual pump though and some bottles just so I can express for OH to feed if at all possible. Even if I end up not expressing the pump's aren't to expensive x

it will come very quickly, because you won't want to spend that much time away from the family, be prepared for long periods of time feeding, needing snacks and drinks etc to hand. Sometimes its a dream, other times it feels like it goes on forever. If its going to be for you, you will soon get comfortable wacking them out whereever i'm sure, as otherwise you'll feel housebound. Look out for bf friendly places, especially for your first trips out. We have a couple of arts centres and cafes that are really pro bf, John lewis cafe's and ikeas are good places too :) good luck again!

I've had mine out at my kids nativity, nursery graduation, asda, numerous restaurants, The Disney store, John Lewis, Debenhams, Boots, the dr's waiting room, whilst my oh was having a consultant appointment and we were talking to dr, the dentist waiting room. You name it, I've fed there. I don't bother with a cover either x

I've always had a hatred of my boobs, they are a size 36b so very small and always been very paranoid of them in vests/swim suits etc. I really do need to lose a bit of my shyness though so hoping it will come with time x

In the beginning i used a cover when in laws were over but soon stopped as he didnt want to be covered. But in the early days when i wasnt confident enough, it was a good option
