Hi, just thinking ahead really, unfortunately I wasn't able to bf my son so don't have much experience...

I want to exclusively bf for as long as possible, but I would like to express too so that OH can get involved with feed times etc, how soon could I do this? Would baby become confused between bottle and nipple before a certain time?

Thanks

More than baby becoming confused, it's important to EBF for the first few weeks in order to establish milk supply, then you can express to your heart's content :D

I combi-fed from day 1, breastfeeding, expressed and formula - and my dd never had nipple confusion. My only problem was when my milk came in she couldn't latch but that's because my nipples are too flat :( x

Tapatalking from my blackberry!

Are u sure the bottles didn't contribute to this?

I used to have pretty flat nipples (no longer!) and I introduced a bottle early and Tyler refused to latch but the midwife fixed it and we put the bottles away.

Wss!

I'd invest in a good electric pump once babies here. I have the medela swing.

Thanks for the replies.

I was going to wait to get a breast pump but just wondering- are the electric pumps a lot better than manual? Do you get more out quicker? How long does it take to express? Sorry for the daft questions just I have no idea!

I wouldn't bother with a manual pump, if you want to express a decent amount you'll need an electric one. Even with electric, it took me about 20 mins both sides.

I would recommend the medela swing - Avent electric pump was good but I broke it within 3 days but that could of been overuse the first few days trying to get my supply up x

My baby has latching issues so I am expressing to keep my supply up and it is working fine.

The Medela seeing has been a god send.

Cx

I had 5 Avents break in 2 months, they're rubbish!

I'd also recommend the Medela Swing - it's kept me breastfeeding for two months now after BF was all going wrong in the first couple of weeks. x

I actually broke a medela swing as well - only had it less than a day!

Nipple confusion is a very rare thing!!!

Apart from her nursing strikes (caused by pill!!) G flips easily. But our MW said to wait till your Bf is properly established - e.g less clustering, this can take up to 6weeks for some, but I think a general guideline is about 4, but you will need to offer a bottle regularly. Xxx

On my iPhone - so cant see tickers :(

harry had a bottle at 5 days old and it's never done him no harm as ladies have said get a good electric one if your serious about expressing i've got a tommee tippee one and it's crap more milk leaks out of the bottom than what goes into the bottle so i gave up on it ebf is way easier xx

I get frustrated as i can never express much and its boring so much easier to ebf. Only trying to express some now so we can have a night out together x
