Ok ladies it's that time of year again, in support of breast cancer awareness!! So we all remember last years game of writing a color as your status?.....or the way we like to have our handbag handy? Well this year, it's slightly different. You need to write your shoe size,( just the number) followed by the word 'inches' and how long it takes to do your hair... Remember last year so many people took part it made national news and, the constant updating of status reminded everyone why we're doing this and helped raise awareness!! Do NOT tell any males what the status' mean, keep them guessing!! And please copy and paste (in a message )this to all your female friends to see if we can make a bigger fuss this year than last year!!! I did my part... now YOUR turn ! Go on ladies...and let's have all the men guessing

put mine on facebook already lets raise awareness ladies x x x

I don't know its something that happens every year, i take part as i have lost 3 family members to cancer and one to breast cancer so i help out when possible x x x

I completely disagree with doing this, it does nothing to help cancer awareness, but does encourage slactivism (ie people feeling good, like they've done something, when they've actually not done anything.) It gets my goat because it's silly, men don't take any notice, they don't wonder about the statuses.

I lost my beloved Auntie to this disease, a loss that I still struggle with years later and when I want to do something for BreastCancer awareness, I donate to charities, (either pennies, or by donating goods to their shops or shopping in their shops) or family members who fundraise for them in her memory.

Clearly I feel quite strongly about that, and my feelings have no bearing on how other people see this, but I wanted to add my two penn'orth to the thread.

Totally agree with you LLJY, this in no way supports those with breast cancer, giving time or money supports those with breast cancer. Sorry to hear about your aunt hon, I'm lucky my mom is a survivor x

Seriously ? How is this raising awareness , how about sending out a message to everyone check their breasts and how to do it properly ? I know tho was posted with good intentions but I don't understand it at all

Right firstly it is raising awareness just by you reading it, its help to raise awareness. Secondly It does support breast cancer and any other cancer's. By people putting it on there status's and other's guessing it help's. may not seem like it but it does.
And your making me sound like i am a cruel bitch for putting this on, in the last 5 years i have lost friends and family to cancer all different types. Most recently was my nan who suffered for 5 years with it she had breast, lungs, liver and stomach cancer that finally killed her and turned her into someone i didnt even recognise. In the end i wouldnt let my daughter see her because it upset them both too much.
By people taking part in it Breast cancer awareness are hoping to make the headlines again this time for women putting on there shoe size and how long it takes do your hair. It promotes national interest, and helps with donations to help find a cure.

I do everything possible for Cancer research I give money, I donate anything i can, i do charity work i do what i can
even by putting this on here to help...and it must be promoting awareness as over 150 views have taken place.
I have a friend who's mum works finding a cure in a research centre near manchester and when asked anything can help we get told the more awareness even by a stupid game helps funds helps towards finding a cure.
Now i got enough on my plate without everyone bitching at me so if thats all you want to do go bitch somewhere else this has had me in tears for god knows how long.

if you don't like it don't comment simple!!!

I don't think anyone wanted to make you look like 'a cruel bitch', you've clearly taken our comments the wrong way. My OPINION is that this sort of thing is a waste of time and that efforts are better spent elsewhere. No reflection on you or your family. I'm very sorry for your losses, and I imagine most girls here have lost numerous family members to cancer. There was no need to reply with something so aggressive though.

Not trying to be harsh but If you don't want people to comment on something don't put it in a public forum where people with opinions can and will comment . Anyway it's my opinion that it doesn't help anyone to know the colour of your knickers or your shoe size, it certainly doesn't make me want to run out and donate to any research funds but that's just my opinion . If I does help that that's just great but I'd imagine "please take some time to consider donating money to cancer research " is more to the point and more effective ? I'm sorry if you were upset by my replies it just something I happen to feel very strongly about

I was very upset last night as i have so much going on right now and the last thing i need when i was just trying to make light of something bad was people giving me gip, people don't have to take part right now but 98% of my female friends on facebook have done it as it gets men guessing too.
Men can get breast cancer too.

What's going on in your life is not really the point in this situation. Many, many people on this forum have stressful or upsetting things going on in their lives. You made a post, people gave well reasoned and polite responses as to why they think it's not a helpful thing to do.

If this was the last thing you need, then perhaps posting things like this on a forum is something you need to take a step back from now. We have a right to respond in the way we choose, and we haven't been unkind in what we have said to you.

Posting silly words does not raise awareness for cancer. It's two words without any meaning or context attached to them, completely pointless and a waste of time. It does not do good, and from what I've seen in people's reactions over the last week, actively annoys people.

Real Breast Cancer awareness involves donating, discussing it, giving links to good, clear explanations of how to check yourself thoroughly, the giving of statistics etc.

We were not giving you gip, it is perfectly possible to disagree with someone's stance or post without making it about them.

I've just seen your other thread and I can see that you so have a lot going on :hugs: so I am sorry if you felt upset by my replies . I won't take back my opinion I'm fully aware that men can get breast cancer and I'm also aware it's just a bit of fun , I just don't see how it's helpful to an important cause . It's absolutely nothing personal I also don't find graphic Facebook picture posts helpful or the "like if you agree or keep scrolling if you heartless " stuff and I generally remove people who insist on sharing and spreading. I suppose it jut annoyed me to see it here too ? However considering how upset this has made you I do feel guilty for being so blunt and I hope your ok

Tabbi, I know youre super stressed out at the moment and thats probably why you saw it this way, but noone in this thread was having a go at YOU, you didnt invent this campaign, and someone even said that they can see you posted it with good intentions. Noones slating you or having a go, but your reply was quite aggresively defensive and theres no need for it. Like I said, I can see how it happened given that youre under so much pressure right now, but try to understand that noone here is against you, we're all supporting eachother and chatting okay?

To be honest I can understand why tabbi is a little upset, I agree it might not be the best way to raise awareness but is it really having a negative impact? Is it harming anyone? Is it taking money away from cancer charities?

Did such a small suggestion, which u can either take part in or not deserve the above responses? Not really.

Don't do this when pregnant.

I did with a few hobbiest to wind someone we know up (payback time hehe)

BUT then I got many messages asking if I was going into prem labour again!

So it can backfire.

Have to agree with positivity here, some responses were uncalled for. Why bother going to the trouble of writing its a lot of rubbish, just don't post! I doubt tabbi was posting for opinions in what others thought of it, it was as she said a bit of lighthearted fun for such a horrible disease and it does make awareness as people will see why it's done and therefore, made aware. Hope you are ok tabbi xx

I am thank you Muffinferon. And you are right it was just meant to be harmless fun. thank you for your support. x x x

Completely agree with this Hun xxxx

I completely stand by what I have said, two words out of context, including one on length of hair (which is a whole world of inappropriate in itself) with the meaning kept secret from half of the world's potential breast cancer sufferers does not raise awareness.

A quick search around the internet suggests that they annoy the living daylights out of quite a large proportion of people, there are thousands of blogs on the subject.

The thing about posting on a forum us that the OP doesn't get to control the responses to a thread to what they want to see.

Why did I post this to this thread? Because it would be great, really brilliant if instead of playing games we actually started talking about Breast Cancer. About how to check ourselves, what happens if you find a lump, on what we can do to support loved ones and friends who have it, male or female. To discuss what it means, especially for women, to have a universally recognised symbol of their femininity surgically removed from their bodies, what that represents and how hard it is to bounce back from that.

Instead of posting negative replies to a harmless thread why not start a new one then about breast cancer awareness and put all the info you have just written in that instead then? People may not have control over who posts what on a thread they start but it just puts a bitter 'taste' in people's mouth when threads take a negative turn for no real reason
