Booking in appointment

Hi girls,

Well I had by booking in appointment with mw. Went ok except couldn't take my blood. She said I have worst veins she has seen in long time! So got jabbed a million times got some blood but not enough. I have to go to hospital tmrw morning and see a phelobotimist? and get it done.

My veins are cack aswell so I know how frustrating and painful it is!

Mine tend to start giving blood then pack up half way through!

Wonder what causes crappy veins??

I have crappy veins too. I'm expecting to be sent off to the hospital to get the bloods. How long did your booking in take? What sort of questions did they ask? Did you like the midwife?

If you could have a full report done by this evening that would be great

i always get told do drink lots before a blood test, apparently being hydrated helps! xx

My mum has terrible veins and she finds soaking her arms in a sink of warm water just before hand helps dilate the blood vessels and really worked for her! The nurse might look at you a bit oddly when you request it but better than being a pin cushion

Lol. Thanks for the tips girls. Pos - they've told me to drink lots tomorrow morning. Glad I'm not the only one with rubbish veins!

Right Ninja, a report. Lol.

I was there for about an hour, but that was mainly due to vein gate! She went through a folder full of questions and said that I'd be given it eventually to take to all of my appointments. Questions in the folder were things like whether you take drugs (lol), family history etc.

She asked me whether I thought I wanted a hospital birth, home birth or water birth. I said hospital, but will have a read on water.

She also asked me if I would breast feed and the benefits etc.

She gave me the date of ante-natal classes that I'm booked into, so that's good. First one is 24th October.

Gave me estimated birth date, still 14th Jan. Asked about cycles, whether taking folic acid etc.

She said that they try to get a scan as close to 12 weeks as possible and that I'd get a letter in the post with the date, but may be 2 or 3 weeks before I get it (helpful seeing as its about 3 and a half weeks...)

She gave me a booklet with stuff about scans. Asked if want to have nuchal scan at 12 weeks (said yes) and spinabiffida (?) test at 20.

That was about it! She was very nice, but she said there are a team of 8 mw's and I may get a different one each time.

I find it really weird that they don't even do a pg test.

Thx for the info. Did they make you wee into a cup etc?

I think its weird too that they don't check you're PG. I'm glad I've my scan pics as evidence.

I was given wee pee pot when I booked the appointment so took that along. She didn't even ask for it, so I went back and she took it. It was pretty grim tbh. My pee was really cloudy and dark tmi!! I was mortified. Plus, it's impossible to pee in one of those things completely, as they're so small! Lol.

Thanks for the report, I have literally no idea what to expect, from the first appts. am a bit worried my scan will be quite late cos I see the gp tomorrow but then I'm away for a month so am unlikely to see the midwife before then and I'll be 10 weeks when I get back. No point in having one now at 5. Anyone got experience of paying for a private scan? With all my antics in Malaysia I may be a bit fretful by the time I get back!
