Hi Ladies!

Unexpectedly I have my first appointment at the IVF clinic quite soon. It's just with one of the Sisters so I'm assuming it will just be usual health checks including BMI.

My BMI is 29 and I know it needs to be below 30 to qualify for IVF. Problem is I had to move my appointment as it was during my holiday, new date is 10 days after I get back and I really do pile on the pounds when I'm away . I will make an effort not to but we are going to Disney World so that's easier said than done - there's calories in the air there!!

My question is, if my BMI is 30 do I get sent away and go back to the bottom of the list or will I be expected to have lost the weight before my actual appointment with the consultant?

From my experience with the infertility clinic in my area, they asked me to loose the weight before my next appointment.
I know it's easy for me to say but try enjoy your holiday, it might be your last one before you have a little one with you :).
Lots of luck xx

If your bmi is 30. How many pounds would u Say u were overweight. You don't look overweight in your pic?

BMI sucks. High BMI does not equal overweight/obesity. It's all a bunch of screwed up poo pants. A body builder's BMI would be really high but there is no way you could call them fat. It's so frustrating!

But in answer to your question, they'll probably ask you to drop the weight before your next appointment. You can still have a great time on holiday without going overboard. Its all about fun, not food :)
(This is coming from someone who has lost over 8 stone! in order to fall pregnant)

My gynaecologist mentioned my wait but didn't mention it affecting any treatment. I am 4ft 11 & 3/4s so my BMI is just never going to work for me because I am chunky lol They will mention losing some weight but I don't think there would be too much of an issue for a few lbs.

Thanks guys. I'm beginning to wonder about this BMI nonsense too. I definitely can do with loosing a couple of stone but I'm not overly large, despite what my BMI says. This picture was taken 2weeks ago - I don't think I look like I have a BMI of just less than 30! ImageUploadedByTapatalk1410272568.281918.jpg

Lovely horse :)

I have a similar problem. I'm short and square with a large bust. I've got quite a bit of muscle too which doesn't help (including big horse gripping thighs lol). I've no idea how I'm going to get mine below what they want as I'm not carrying that much fat really. Wish they would come up with something better than bmi. My husband is the same, he is skinny yet comes out overweight on bmi as he does a physical job and is strong for his build.

I was told they won't start any treatment if bmi isn't right but as it isn't your consultant app I would think they will just say to get it below before then. Good luck :)

U don't look overweight at all, just normal. :)
