I did ask midwife about this and she had no concerns but it still has me a little worried. Since Alex's cord has come off his bellybutton has been bleeding. Whenever he has his nappy changed on the inside there is little bits of blood as well as on his bellybutton. When it has been bleeding we wipe it with a cotton wool ball dipped in warm sterile water.

Anyone else had this and is it completely normal?

Yes my baby had this too, we used to find bloodstains on her nappy. All was fine. I believe you only need to be concerned if there's a lot of blood or if there's puss or it smells bad.

We had exactly the same hun, was so worried we took Alexis to the out of hours gp. Got told it's completely normal and to just carry on as normal, keep it clean etc, and that it would heal.

Xx

My poor little girl managed to knock her belly button stump off at 3 days old (thrashing around crying as she was having trouble latching). Basically it gushed with blood like I'd turned on a tap and I (and she) was in hysterics. My partner was the level headed one who gave me a cotton pad to put pressure on and it stopped as soon as we did. Took her to GP immediately and they said all was ok. It was a bit scabby for a few weeks but was totally fine. So you'll be fine x
