Hi Ladies.

Does the epu do progesterone blood work? I’ve had bloods done there before but I’m sure it was only testing my hcg due to going through a miscarriage!

I’m currently 4 weeks and have been doing a lot of research. Seems I may have low progesterone which isn’t good in pregnancy and can cause miscarriage (I’ve had two).

I really want this testing but my gp won’t even order a blood sample until I’ve had another mc.

Just wondering if the epu would do this if I presented there? Especially if I had spotting etc xxx

I think it's worth a try! I've had experience of 2 epus in different health authorities and they've both been great! I didn't have progesterone testing as i was diagnosed with low progesterone before pregnancy so was on progesterone suppositories from the point of conceiving anyway and there's absolutely no harm in taking it even if you don't strictly need it so I think if you present as being really anxious given your history I'm sure they'll be supportive xx

Thanks for your reply!!
Ive ended up booking a private appointment to get this checked out instead as I don’t have to wait until 6 weeks to be seen.
I’m convinced I have low progesterone. My luteal length is usually 11 days, I’ve had two MCs aswell and tender breasts straight after ov, spotting between periods etc. So sad the nhs just won’t even listen to me.
Wish it wasn’t so expensive! But peace of mind will be worth it!
Do you think if it’s not harmful to take anyway a private gp would just prescribe me it? Xxx

A lot of the early pregnancy clinics won’t see you till your 7 weeks. I think for peace of mind and to get sorted your doing right thing going private. That’s what i would do. If it is an issue getting progesterone tested now they can give you pessaries etc to help. Good luck xx

Hi April I was prescribed progesterone by a private nurse at a private scan clinic so I’m sure a private gp could prescribe it too xx

Yeah, it's a pain isn't it, we had all of our initial treatment privately and it was our private fertility consultant who prescribed the progesterone so I'm sure your clinic will just in case. When is your appointment? Xx

It’s just a blood test on Tuesday then will see the dr when that comes back in. Also trying my own go one last time Tuesday to!

I could only afford the blood test then the gp app. Not gp blood then gp again. Do you think I should try stretch for that as they might just give me the progesterone anyway?

Is there someone you can talk to at the private clinic about what appointment you need because I'm pretty sure they'd give you the progesterone without doing a blood test and then the progesterone itself is pretty expensive! Xx

Thank your advice it’s really helping.
how expensive would you say?
I can only really see a gp there as the consultant prices are just to expensive if I’m honest. Sounds like a gp would be enough though, what do you think?

If you can get your own gp to prescribe it for you it'll be the price of a normal prescription but we had it privately and I remember it being quite expensive, but sorry, I can't remember how much, maybe £15 for a months worth? I don't think it was more than that. I'm sure seeing a private GP would be fine if that's what you mean? Xx

Yes that’s what I meant! I’ve decided to try get the private gp app tomorrow
You’ve been so helpful thank you so much!

I checked pg privately. It was only £30. And then second time GP offered me one. It's definitely worth checking. My pg levels were good but I took progesterone supplement anyway in the first trimester.
