Blood clot

I saw my midwife this morning, who was lovely, but I'm a bit worried - I've had a DVT in the past, from a combination of the pill and flying and she's referred me to a specialist as I'll need anticoagulant drugs throughout pregnancy, which i will have to inject myself daily.

I've just been reading up and it says thrombophilia (broad name for any blood clotting condition) can cause miscarriage. I think the chance of this decreases when you start the anticoagulant therapy but I won't start it for at least another 2 weeks.....midwife was surprised that my doc hadn't referred me earlier...also am worried at the long term effects of heparin anticoagulant (I've heard you shouldn't take it for longer than 3 months....?)

Lots to think about but I spose I'm looking for someone else who has experienced / is experiencing this...any advice? Thanks x

sorry to hear about all that..

your almost 12 weeks, so the chance of miscarriage drops after that, plus taking that medicatin, which i presume thins your blood, will lower your risk even more.

also, if the midwife/doctor doesnt think its safe to take for longer than three months, then im sure they will tell u.

im positive doctors experience is more reliable than a website

Aww, thank you It's so nice to have people to talk to on here!

Have had to tell work as it means I can't fly - am sure they're not very happy as I'm due a few trips abroad but hey, it's tough *&$!

I imagine you will be on a very low dose of prophylactic Heparin, so you should be fine if you have had no probs so far1
