I'm desperate for some advice please ladies! My LO is almost 9 months old now and for the last 6 weeks or so he's been biting when feeding. I don't know what to do anymore! This evening he drew blood for the third time :-(

He doesn't do it for every feed, usually only when he's impatient for my let down or at the end of a feed when he starts playing. Usually I spot the signs and take him off in time but from time to time he gets me and it's so painful! It's got to the point that I'm tense during every feed waiting to see if he's going to bite, if I need to take him off. It's really ruining the feds but I don't want to to stop BF :(

I've tried telling him no and putting him down for a minute before resuming the feed. I've tried saying ow loudly and doing the same. I've tried saying no and ow and ending the feed but nothing works, when he's in the mood for it he still bites.

Any advice any of you might have would be very much appreciated. I'm afraid that if we can't sort this out that we're going to have to stop BF and I want to keep going until he's at least a year!

Aww ive no experience of this but heard you are meant to keep taking him off, hope you can get it sorted :hugs: sorry im not much help. kellymom website might have some good advice

Hi. Is there a time when they start biting during the feed? If its more towards the end, they can just get bored, so mums tend to take them off then.
Also, some mums vocalise, like saying 'no biting' take them off for a minute then try them back on.
Some mums find feeding in a quiter place, no noise distractions can help too.

Could be teething.

It will pass as most things do with babies, it's quite common for bfed babes to go through this phase. It's nothing to do with you, it's just theY start discovering new things with their mouths and teething doesn't help either.

Hope you can find a way to limit the biting, I'm sure you will or they will just stop doing it.

Finn has started doing this, as he cut his first 2 teeth a month ago. It hurts so much! I haven't found a way of stopping him doing it yet but I'm hoping telling him no will help! x

I remember replying to a similar post a while ago.

My way of stopping my first when he did this, was as soon as he started to bite, I would gently push his face into my boob so his nose was covered and he would instantly release his grip therefore setting my nipple free, so he could breathe. This sounds a bit harsh but it worked for me and a few other mums I've known who did it. I followed the action with a "No, don't bite Mummy". I got a few giggles but I think he only did it a couple of times before he understood not to do it.

Hope this helps. xxx
