Have any mums dealt with a pregnancy while being Bipolar? It's really difficult at the moment, and I dread to think what's going to happen when I hit Post Natal Depression :(

Has anybody been in this situation?

Im not bipolar but have suffered with anxiety/depression for many years. I did get Post Natal Depression but was very closely monitored and it was only for about 4 months, feeling normal now.

Hi eveadel, if you don't mind me asking what was post natal depression like? My OH keeps saying I'll get it. He knows about these things. I definitely have some kind of mental problem. The thing is, if I can't control it and I get PND I'll be out of OHs house cos he won't be able to deal with it if I can't be strong enough.

It is hard to explain but PND for me was being on a constant downer together with my anxiety which reached an all time high. I felt quite jealous of my DH being able to go to work and come home when he wanted. I also felt I couldnt cope with Isabella (bless her heart she was quite demanding). Im now fine, I dont feel down and my anxiety levels are back to what is normal for me.

My DH and mum were very very supportive.

You must not feel ashamed or embarrassed about PND if you do get it, as so many woman whether it is just a little bit or suffer quite bad have had it or have got it. There is lots of help and support available.

Hi, I did reply to this post before but it was one of the posts that mysteriously disapeared lol

Anyway, I am bipolar, and with my first pregnancy it was a ngithmare - mainly because I was un-diagnosed back then, my doc thought it was "just depression".

My next pregnancy it wasnt too bad as I knew what to expect, the signs to look out for etc and kept on top of it quite well, although I still had PND quite badly for about 3 years afterwards.

I think the best thing you can do is go and have a chat with your doctor about what to expect and methods of controlling it, theres a lot of good info here http://bipolar.about.com/od/pregnancy/Pregnancy.htm

If you want to chat more please pm me xx

Thanks for that link, I'll have a browse through :) Also I'll def drop you a PM sometime, the thought of BP1 and what lies ahead is sorta scary.
