Hey ladies, abit early for me to be here but I have beem told to think about it.
I am 26weeks preg with my second. I formula fed my first and really want a go with bf this time BUT me and partner are big believers in routine including feeding. ( I know alot a ppl will disagree with this but it worked with our first) I am just wondering for those of u bfing how long is baby going between feeds? Also do the midwives at the hospital help you after the birth for baby to latch on? Cuz I dont have a clue. No matter how much I read about it I am doubting myself and lots of what ifs are popping into my head. Also my OH wants to feed baby at least once through the night. But I am scared of expressing, it sounds so painful and they tell u not to mix bf with formula. Wud one bottle on a night hurt?

hey! im breast feeding just now.
in the first month its pretty much impossible to routine feed. or it was for me anyway. your baby goes through growth spurts and literally all they want to do is feed. there were times where i was literally attatched to him pretty much all day. except for when he would dose off. i think because theyre just getting the hang of it as well they cant suck out as much as they would like, so they are there for hours sometimes.

however, we are 3 months down the line now and my little one feeds every 3 hours. except from at night, where he likes to constantly be attatched because he doesnt take a dummy so he likes to suck for comfort (id advise not to ever get into that routine. cause you dont get any sleep lol).

for me expressing is ridiculously easy lol. sometimes it literally just pours out and i dont need to do anything. other times i do, but it doesnt hurt me and within 10 minutes i can get about 100ml. but i know thats not always the case with all women.

we were told to wait a month before introducing the expressed milk in a bottle. so that the baby can get used to breast first. worst advice ive ever been given because he wont take a bottle whatsoever. or a dummy. its like he doesnt know how to suck on them and only knows how to suck on the real thing. so wished we had introduced it earlier to get him used to both.

yeah the midwives will help in hospital. my LO didnt latch on in hospital bbut we got the breast specialist to come to our house the next day and she was amazing. however we're from scotland and not sure they offer this service elsewhere

breast feeding really is so rewarding and you can definitely see the results in our happy chubby baby! but it is very tiring. and there will be times you might feel like giving up, so id say prepare yourself.
