BF and no poo for 4 (now 7) days

I had my baby 1 week ago and had my 3 days of meconium but since then nothing, no changing stool or anything. Mw wasnt concerned but i am anxious about it. My milk is in and she is feeding well on demand. Seeing mw tomorrow for reweigh. She was 6lb 6oz born then lost at day 3 to 5lb 13oz. Gained 40g on day 6. Advice appreciated.

hey, dont worry about it. alot of breastfed babies poo once or twice a week. my dexter is 13months now and i just gave up breastfeeding 2 days ago, but before he started solids he only pood once every 4-6 days. i was worried at first but MWs and HVs assured me it was normal. and put it down to your baby soaking up all the goodness from the milk so there isnt much waste. as long as she is weeing regularly all is normal! xxx

My lo went a couple of days after passing the meconium before doing a poo - she is also bf. Now she seems to poo constantly - up to about 5 times a day and once or twice in the night !! If the mw isn't worried then I'm sure all is fine and she'll be pooing for England before you know it xx

Well weight static at day 8 MW asking me to express and give her extra. I have tried electric and manual pump not much milk coming. Did some hand expressing and got all of 8 mls after ages. I am teetering on switching to formula but love feeding her. Still no poo. She is feeding better and for longer and I feel her sucking fast to get the hind milk.

Exactly this. Now she poos constantly but i did worry in the early days.
Keep going hun your doing great. I found I could only express first thing in the morning, and I had to be very relaxed. Also I express after I've massaged my breast with hot flannels. Worth a try?

Fwiw I don't think my milk came in properly for about a week. She struggled to put on weight but is doing fine now, we just needed a few cluster feed sessions!

You're doing done Hun- I wouldn't bother with the expressing, just keep offering your boon often and they eventually get quicker and better at getting your milk

To me unless weight drops seriously bf babies always get what they need- if you're getting in good with breast feeding I wouldn't rock the boat by starting to express etc xx

she fed really well yesterday, she cluster fed most of the day and I felt she was trying to up my supply. she was on every hour/hour and a half for 20 mins plus so I wouldn't have had time for expressing milk any way. Still no poo, mw calling today to weigh again.

MW support worker has just been and Callie has gained 80g in 2 days. Gonna try cooled boiled water top up for the bowels if not they suggested a formula feed top up. Everything else going ok. If no poo by tomorrow will need to be admitted.

Sorry to hear this hun, I really hope she poo's!

James didn't go for a week when we moved over from my milk to formula and it drove me insane with worry (baby seemed find though)

When he went I was in raptures!

my lo didnt poo for 7 days by day 8 i was worried and booked gp appt then the explosion came!

Was sent to paediatric admission unit Dr checked her over and decided it was a milk supply issue my end which made me feel a complete failure. She did a little PR examination and since then I have had a green poo explosion and a brown poo explosion. They want me to try and go every 3 hour to feed her and express off anything not taken and give it to her. If not much to top her up with formula. I am so gutted I feel like throwing in the towel as I have given her a 20 ml top up of formula and she has slept really well. Doesn't help that my tommee tippee electric pump is crap.

Well 7 days after the PAU gave me crap advice which I ignored or I would have lost my supply all together. Saw breastfeeding MW and got a hospital grade pump on loan, started domperidone to help increase supply. Callie has gained 150g and is over her birth weight. However still no poo on her own so have to see gp if none by Mon. I am giving 2 formula top ups a day plus EBM I get roughly 60-70mls off a day. Plus switch feeding when can and compress breast if she falls asleep on it. I am drinking loads eating well.

Callie has pooed this morning and I am so chuffed, it generated a load of laundry but who cares. Phew.

Hi hun, Domperidone worked for me after about a week so its possible. Sorry to hear you have trouble but you are doing amazingly well! I am EBFing my second (i did top ups in the first week but none after that).

Well the plan has worked she was weighed sat and gained 150g so 20g over her birth weight, pooed on the sun and mon. Saw HV tues and gained another 50g. Expressing going so so as she has been on loads and draining me.

She had a poo sun, mon, thurs and today so my anxiety is lower about that.
