I've been bf'ing Brooke for 6 months now and have decided to put her onto formula. I am quite concerns about the pain I'm going to suffer from engorgement and wanted advice on the best way to go about it for baby and me. Thanks ladies x x

I think it would be best to start off by cutting down one feed at a time, so you body gets used to producing less milk

hats what I plan to do when I stop expressing

Wss it will also help LO adjust as her digestive system won't be used to it. I would do it over a period of weeks xx

I'm in the process of doing it with Bethan. I've cut down 1 feed per week and I'm just boobie feeding the first feed of the day because it's so much easier bf when half asleep first thing than organising a bottle. No engorgement at all, no strange poo, it's been fine :)

I've done it over the last week and my day feeds are formula. I'm only becoming overly full at night and I express a bottle for her last feed the next night. I'm totally with you on the first feed, don't plan on giving that up for while. I do express wee bits during the day but only enough that I'm not too lumpy.

Thanks ladies :) sounds like a good plan cutting down gradually. How much formula for each? 7oz? She has had some formula now and again, so hoping she'll take to it ok. Wasn't sure about bf'ing and bottle feeding together as she might get upset when she can't have the boob? I was thinking I might just express and give formula too x x

Right the not getting the boob thing can be a wee bit hard, mostly for me sometimes because I see how happy her wee face is when she sees them.
She took to the formula really well (little bit too well for my liking :'( ) I've done it really quickly due to this because I go back to work in six weeks so want to get her into a routine before hand.
The first few times she only took 4oz and I panicked, now she'll take between 6 & 8 (if really hungry) and its only been a week.
If you can do it more gradual than I have, I'm just lacking time.
Xx

Bethan had anywhere between 5 & 7 oz per feed x

Thanks hun. Could you tell me exactly how you did please? What feeds you cut out when etc? I'd like to get in done in the next two weeks if possible. Going abroad in may so want to make sure she's settled by then x x

I started with her most relaxed feed, so for me that was the 10am one. I did that for a couple of days then introduced another. Then I changed one a day but i still breastfeed first feed and last feed has been a bottle of breast milk since 4 weeks. I only changed more because she was having dirty nappies with no issues. My boots aren't too sore during the day, but I do let out a little bit out in shower and then express at night. But they seem to be learning quickly,
It'll be ideal if you can stretch it out over the couple weeks, as much as freya has took to the formula fine I'm feeling a bit sad. It's the effect on you too remember.

Thanks hun. Will give that a go. Starting today so will see. I do feel guilty about stopping but I only managed 4 weeks with my older daughter so am proud of myself for lasting 6 months! I just feel it's time, she still doesn't sleep that great at night and I'm so tired alot of the time, so hoping this may help, feeling stressed too as I never seem to get a break! Both Brooke and my toddler Millie are so clingy at the moment, only want me and not daddy, at least with formula my oh can feed her and get up in the night too ;) x x

She was 14 weeks there when I stopped but Ile be back at work before she is 6 months. Though for a while Ile still feed her in the morning if I can. I was changing her for bed last night and when I leaned forward she could see down my top and her wee face lit up, I did feel guilty. Xxx

Aw bless you hun :hugs: We seem to be doing ok so far fx'd ;) I think I'll just cut a feed every couple of days and see how it goes x x
