Hi Guys, I know this was mentioned on here but can't find it, we've had four weeks of teething but its now interrupting her sleep and she wakes up crying...calpol is only good for couple of hours but I did see somewhere a recommended painkiller for through the night...any suggestions would be much appreciated...she uses bonjela for after feeding and during naps with teething rings etc...

I use ibuprofen if it's really bad - ideally it should be given around the time they eat, but once in awhile won't hurt.

I also use Ashton and parsons teething granules find them really effective at taking the initial edge off

Anbesol teething gel - from the pharmacy at Boots or Superdrug.

X

thanks guys, can you get the ibuprofen in the same format as paracetamol is in calpol? Will take a look tomorrow...fx she sleeps better tonight...

ive read ibuprofen is not suitabole until 6months old but there is an infant acetaminophenbut this does not reduce inflammation which is what Im guessing she needs with teething...

Infant nurofen can be given from three months old. If you read the information on the box it's will advice you on circumstances where it shouldn't be used.

Babies actually metabolise medicines faster than adults and because they feed so frequently, there is not the risk of stomach ulcers etc there is in giving ibuprofen to adults. Medicines are highly regulated and would not be sold for children this age unless it was safely to do so.

I've just had to Google acetaminophen cos I'd never heard of it, it's the American name for paracetamol.

thanks for that, I shall get some ibuprofen then for tonight just in case...

We're struggling bad with molars just now. I find alternating between Calpol and nurofen the best. She gets Calpol before bed then just before I go a few hours later I give her nurofen while she's still sleeping. If you put the syringe a little in their mouth they will still naturally suck in and just put it in a bit at a time. Anbesol liquid on a cotton bud is also great

thanks have tried nurofen (calprofen) tonight so we shall see if it helps...served on a spoon and so in a sitting up position she drank it right up as she is now used to a spoon with weaning and knows what to do bless her...
