 Hello ladies, and congratulations to all who've recently got your BFP's, and good luck to those still getting there!

I joined the forum two or three months of months ago, with the intention of leaving it all to nature. Since then, I've read the books, read your posts (although I don't have as much time for that as I'd like) and have been charting for 2 moths!

Now there is something I'd like your honest opinion on, if you'd be so kind. (Sorry if the whole story is a bit long!)

The thing is, I have been on the pill for many years. Before then my cycles were very long and extremely irregular. But that's over 10 years ago! Because of that, I have always suspected it would take me a long time to get pregnant.

My first chart last month showed a 27 day cycle (much shorter than expected) and I thought this was because I was still under the effects of the pill (which I stopped on New Year's Day, btw). Ovulation seemed present but luteal phase was a bit short (8 days).

My second chart is on day 40 right now. Ovulation again, seems to have happened, around day 19 this time.

Here's the question - Is it too early to test?
I don't want to put my hopes up. I half expected my cycles to be 'settling down' by now, i.e. going back to being really long and irregular.
Is it possible at all that, instead, my cycles have simply become more regular/shorter after all this time??

Am I beeing overcautious?? Or am I putting my hopes up??
Any opinions one way or the other will be greatly appreciated! :D

Im definitely no expert so you may want to wait for someone else to post but Im sure at 11dpo, it is ok to test and a clear blue digi should show?

Goodluck sweetie!!

I don't know much about the pill. But I remember worrying I might have a short luteal phase so did some research. I read that, while the time before ovulation can vary by days and even weeks, the luteal phase will only vary by one day (so say if your luteal phase was 8 days, it should only be 7,8 or 9 this time). So if you know you ovulated on day 19 then you should of got your period by day 26, 27, or 28. So to be on day 40  I'd say your right to get your hopes up, and it is definately not too ealry to test so get testing

 Hello and welcome

With you charting what are your temps like? are they high? If you are on cd 40 and you ov day 19 then I would test first thing in the morning if its a BFN try not to get to disappointed as it is not over until the witch arrives. I was on the pill for about 5 years and my cycles were all over the place for about 9 months after so your cycles might not have settled down yet. If you want someone to have a look at your charts then the girls over in the chart stalker thread will be more then willing to have a look.

Do you have any symptoms of pregnancy?

Good luck ttc.

Thanks so much for your speedy responses, girls! :D

I think you are right, I should get a testing kit tomorrow. Let's be hones, I'm just too scared of disappointment.
Both my hubby and I are the 'worst case scenario type' so we keep postponing the test. Just a pair of scardy cats, really

A&J, I'm not too sure about symptoms.

I've had high temperatures for 19 days. That's the other thing, since the clocks went forward I've been waking up to an hour 'earlier' than I should so I'm a bit iffy about how reliable these are (another reason why I haven't tested yet!), and the rise after ovulation was not as pronounced as the last cycle.

I had very bad cramps in the middle of the night about 8 days after ovulation (my period cramps aren't usually that strong) but that was only once. I've had sore boobs for 3 or 4 days, and for the last couple of days I feel short of breath just going down the stairs.
But I'm not nauseous or feel 'weird' in any other way.

Keep us posted with your test. I would give it a whirl. Just do what you're doing with your expectations so you guys do not get disappointed if it is BFN. Good Luck!

THANK YOU GIRLS! :D

I got straight onto the internet this morning to enter my two last charts on FertilityFriend. I had to learn to use it pretty quickly, that woke me up a bit .

I am still a bit worried about my temperatures not being accurate, so I think I'll pop over to the Chart Stalkers see what they think.
If they agree with you too, it's testing time tonight :?

Will definitely keep you posted!

 If I was you I would test in the morning with FMU as the hormones(sp?) that the test pick up is likely to be stronger, but that is just me good luck when you do test

Thanks JodieLou!

A&J, Thanks for the advice. That's what I'll do.

I asked the Chart Stalkers and they told me first wee in the morning is best - I can't tell you how useless I feel, I didn't even know that! :?

I popped over to the chemist at lunchtime and got one of those Clearblue tests, ideal for dummies like me! ( w I had no idea they were so expensive...)

aww don't feel useless at all I did not know that myself until I came on to this forum.

 Good morning, bright and early!

I spent the whole night tossing and turning in bed with worry/anticipation. I finally got up at 6 a.m. and did the test. By the time I got up from the loo I had a result:     Pregnant     .
Then I showed hubby, wide awake by then, and I just started shaking and crying myself silly.

This is according to my friend Clearblue digital. Me being me, I'm thinking it's 'only' 99% accurate, it may be wrong, the result appeared too early, something may go wrong now... I know, I know I'm a real pain

We are both very happy, but until it sinks in, scared and shocked win hands down! We were not expecting this to happen so soon.

I am all over the place, I don't kwnow what to do with myself. :? I feel so unprepared it's unreal. At times I'm panicking thinking I don't know anything I should know :?, then I start sobbing myself silly next (but in a nice way :D).

I'll call the doctor and make an appointment, I guess.
In the meantime I don't know if I can or can't take an aspirin for this splitting headache, or whether I should go to my yoga class tomorrow.
Better head off to the library too

Thanks so much girls, you have been a great help! Thank you!!

Congrats Fluffball! :cheer:
I think the 1% of wrong tests is more likely to be false negatives (where ppl are PG but it doesnt show up, rather than where ppl arent pregnant and the test says they are).

Clearblue Digis are well used and well respected tests - you have to believe the result!

I think you are advised to not take anything whilst PG if it can be avoided - but if you do need a painkiller, paracetamol is the best thing, that should be safe - dont take ibruprofen (nurofen) or anything like that

Congrats again!

Congratulations! If Mr. Clearblue says you're pregnant you are! :cheer:

Like choklatemunky said the 1% inaccuracy relates to false negatives, false positives are virtually unheard of!

Thanks Choklatemunky!

Thanks Maybebaby!

Your responses are very reassuring. Still, I think we'll keep it quiet for a a while :shhh:. Although I'd really like to tell my mum!

I am the type that tries to avoid taking any medication if I can help it, so just imagine now! I'll try and manage with no painkillers today. I'm sure it's just lack of sleep from last night.
