I have been referred to a recurrent miscarriage clinic anyone have any advice or info on what I should expect and how long the referral should take?

My guess is there will be blood tests involved, they’ll be after info on your cycle lengths and details of gestation for each loss. I can’t comment on timescales, all depends on the activity in your nhs trust. I hope it gives you some answers x

Thank you. I’ve had blood tests but by my gp so I reckon they will need to be repeated x

Yeh they will do. The specialists will have more rigorous checks to do, with trying to pinpoint an issue. You may need Ulster sounds (including internals) to check you haven’t got a septum in the uterus etc x

Well that sounds like it will be interesting lol

 I meant ultrasound scans.... not Ulster sounds!! Autocorrect! X

That’s ok I gathered that’s what you meant x

Sorry to hear about your losses lucyr. I was referred to a recurrent miscarriage clinic last October and has the appointment about 8 weeks later. The first appointment was fairly short, gave a history of my losses and a family medical history and was then sent for blood tests.

Do you know what your gp has tested you for so far?

The recurrent miscarriage clinic tested me for diabetes, coeliacs, thyroid, vitamin d and blood clotting disorders. Took about 8 weeks for the results to come through.

I was told that if the results came back normal then the plan would be for me to try again but to come up with a plan about reassurance scans etc.

My clinic weren’t going to do a scan or karyotype tests or test for things like mthfr but I’m not sure if the different tests depend on what area you are in.

I hope your appointment comes through quickly and you get some answers xx

Thank you I know my doctors tested for thyroid and blood clotting such as lupus and bits. I was meant to be referred on March but my docs never done it and i ended up pregnant when I went to follow it up in may hopefully it will be quick so we can carry on trying. It’s such a daunting time just want to get on with it but will wait for a while as I don’t think I’m mentally ready yet x

It’s compleelg understandable that you feel like that after all you’ve been through. Do you know what clinic you’re being referred to? Xx

It’s going to be the one at my local hospital I believe his head of the EPAU but also works privately x

How annoying just got a letter from my doctors they have referred me to a gynaecologist rather than the dr I was meant to be referred too. What do I do now?

Oh no that’s frustrating. Have you googled who the appointments with and does it being up any information about what they specialise in? Could you speak to your gp and ask them to actually refer you to a Tommy’s clinic instead? Xx

Ive googled but I don’t even know the name of who I’m seeing I’m going to call my gp tomorrow as I didn’t get the letter until I got home from work and the doctors was closed x
