I'm so sorry, I'm going to have a million and one questions but I promise they'll die down soon!

Just a quick one re: bedrooms. We live in a small 2 bed semi-detached and we are not in a position to sell up and buy anywhere else at present. Money is a huge factor and we simply cannot afford it. What do we do regarding bedrooms? Especially if we now have a girl! Do they still share? Help please!

Hi Cossie!

How old is your other child?

Boys and girls can easily share up until a certain age... bunk beds are great for this when they get older! Babies and toddlers can also be put in with another younger child also to save space, this happens often, especially in London where space is at a premium.

There's 21 months between me and my brother and we loved sharing a room. My mum always just had it really neutral with like our own kinda sides of the room with our toys etc. That was like 30 years ago though so now they'll be so many options of nice ideas. Obviously easy peasy if you have a boy but loads of options still if baby is a girl xx

Just looked on Pinterest and there's loads of ideas if you take a peak :) xx

Thanks guys, that's really put my mind at ease!

DS is 2 yrs 3 months so still really young. I really want a girl but maybe a boy would be easier!

As a guide our council says: 2 children of the same sex under the age of 16 can share or 2 children of either sex under the age of 10 can share.

I have a 2 year old daughter, and I'm 26 weeks with number 2. We've been told it's a girl, and they'll be sharing when the youngest is old enough to move out of our room.

What do people to when one kid is sick during the night? I always wonder this as we've had many a night of pukey or poopy bed sheets and the whole house (poor dogs) have got up in chaos so I always wonder what the poor room mate does lol x

Hey Belfa,

I shared a room with my sister (2 years between us) until I left home at 18!

What I can remember of it is that yes, you do wake up, but when you're really little you just tend to sleep deep and just go back. I will say often if we were really poorly my mum would set up a bed on the sofa downstairs with a night stand and sick bucket beside us when we got a little older so that helped not disturb the other I guess.

I can remember seeming to get sick at the same time! Or, one after the other! Guess that's just kids for you, catching everything!

I have a 2 bedroom flat, all 3 boys will share a room until we can move. We're lucky in that it's a massive double room, so it'll be bunk beds and space saver storage!

My daughter 5 has her own room.. my two boys 4 and 6 are currently sharing and my younger brother has the spare bedroom. (He lives with us while my mum is recovering from an il was but should be returning to hers shortly) if this baby is a girl then when she's around one she will share with her sister. If baby is a boy then we will give my eldest his own room and the younger two will share.

I shared a room with my brother who was a year older until I was 10,I remember getting my own room the time I started secondary school. I never thought twice about it and our room was fully blue and boyish and I didnt care. We played together anyways ,hed have me to play spiderman/action man and I'd make him play barbies, was lots of fun! Were best friends now were adults,I think kids find sharing rooms fun! Xx

Have a look on pinterest, there's lots of ideas for different gender rooms or you could go neutral and have grey and yellow or something along those lines?

We're in a medium sized three bed. DsS has the smallest room for when he's here about three nights per week.

DS will share with #2 once they leave our room.

We explained to DsS, when we moved here two months before having DS, that the baby would have the bigger room because they would be sharing with the next baby later on.

He understood that between him having another room at his mum's and the age gap being 10yrs and the need for him to sleep well so that his epilepsy meds work properly, it was ok that he wasn't going to be getting a bigger room than before when we moved.

If #2 turns out to be a girl then by the time DS is ten and they need separate rooms, DsS will be 20 and his permanent living arrangements will be different and the third bedroom freed up etc.
