Ok, I have a question too :)

How would it be beneficial to stop people from using formula to feed their babies?

Some people cant breastfeed for medical reasons but some people just choose not to. Fair enough, breast is best but to make it compulsory would no doubt result in more stressed mothers which in turn would result it more unhappy babies. I've never heard of a baby coming to any harm just because they were formula fed rather than breastfed.

Many people feel strongly about breastfeeding, well I feel strongly about how bottle feeding mothers are made to feel bad :)

Have to say I agree, everywhere I turn on the forum there's threads and posts mentioning and hinting at formula being "wrong" in some way. It's like some sort of breastfeeding "crusade" and I am NOT liking it at all (and I breastfed for 9 MONTHS!)

Even worse then this though is I think it may be affecting moms on a private level, and in turn their babies.

Say you were a new, breastfeeding mom you were struggling... would you come HERE and ask for advice? I'm starting to think people will be afraid to ask for fear of getting judged/belittled, so this "crusade" is doing more harm than good.

.
i totally agree, i used to get my knickers in a twist over it but i wont bother fighting formula feeding mums corners anymore its BORING now!

breast is best and any one that does it and sticks to it its great and being proud is great to i would be but i wouldnt rub it in 24/7 :bored:

any mamma who feeds her baby is good, those who dont feed their kiddies are mean and should be shipped away - doesn everyone agree with that?! :D

If it was the norm to breastfeed and not to give your baby artificial milk there wouldnt be a problem.

So many women get stressed because the dont get the appropriate help, support and guidance that is needed, if breastfeeding was the main way to feed your baby ( well it is thats what breasts are for ) there would be more support, well I would hope so :D

They feel failers, its not there fault, they were failed by the heath care professionals!

I am well aware some women and only a small minority cant for medical resons.

Breastfeeding:
• has positive effects on the health of mothers
and children, whether they are rich or poor
• reduces the risk of acute infections such as
diarrhoea, chest, ear and urinary tract
infections, flu, and meningitis
• protects against chronic conditions in the
child such as allergies and type I diabetes
• prevents cardiovascular diseases, including
high blood pressure and obesity later in life

taken from baby milk action

We don’t have mass deaths from dysentery in the United Kingdom, though babies here are five times more likely to be admitted to hospital with gastroenteritis if they are bottle-fed. But if children don’t breastfeed they become susceptible to an astonishing range of illnesses and conditions.

Because women the UK are not given the right information or shown that bfing is great for babies from an early age (ie school ), people think bottle feeding is the norm, well thats only becuase of advertising and miss informed HVs, the 70s is were it all started.

I would not abolish the NHS. BUT i would make it so that not everyone can get heatlth care from it. You would have had to have been a resident in this country all your life to get the benefits. Immigrants would have to suffer i am afraid. As would people coming in from other countries unless they are on holiday and need emergency that is.

Well that'd be me buggered then wouldn't it - I came to the UK when I was 3.
Not my fault I wasn't born here - not my fault I was brought here when I was 3 either. Bit harsh there budge.

I am sorry Urchin but I dont think thats true, every post were a bfing mum needed help, she got it!

And I am definatly sure that myself and others have really helped other mums.

And to say that I am offened, I really want to help other mums who dont have the help.

Thats all I have done.

People can see when they ask about bfing related questions they get help here, I dont see how that will put bfing mums off?

Thats just crazy

Tasha people generally know the benefits of breastfeeding, and they can make their own minds up, they are allowed to do so.
I am really starting to feel like these constant reminders all over the forum (we are now in off topic NOT feeding) are just giving moms more pressure where they don't need it, and may even be putting people off asking for help with their breastfeeding!

Maybe because you don't seem to think a lot of people have good enough reasons for stopping breastfeeding? You said it youself:

Breastfeeding would be first choice for feeding and formula only to be given to thos who cant really breastfeed.

In whose opinion would that be? It's every moms choice, and I don't think people come to the forum to get it rammed down their throats. people bottle feed for all kinds of reasons, you seem very judgemental.

I could judge you for starting baby rice very early, which has known risks for babies health too, but I don't ram it down your throat, you knew the medical facts and you made you choice, it's up to you.

The last thing I wanted to do was cause another breast/bottle debate, or any disagreements come to think of it. Sorry! :wall:  :wall:

Budge asked what you would do if you were PM, and I said thats what I would like, its worked in other countries so why shouldnt it here.

Thats what that quote was related too, not to what I said about bfing mums getting help.

Right ok you feel like that, thats fine, if I havnt helped anyone on this forum and im such a bad person for being pro bfing then I dont see any point belonging to a forum were I dont feel I have a right to say what I like aswell.

I really cant be botherd with this

Tasha I don't want to argue with you, I like you, but sometimes I just wish you'd calm down a bit and let moms choose how they want to feed their babies without any extra pressure. I haven't said you haven't helped moms, I breastfed for 9 months, and have helped plenty of moms too, but sometimes it's gone too far, and turned into belittling bottle feeders who really don't deserve it.
I happen to be VERY pro-breastfeeding myself, I just don't think it's fair to ram it down people's throats.
Many moms come here to get away from pressure they feel as a parent, I don't think stuff like this anti-bottle crusade is helping them.
