When can babies start using one?

Tyler won't take a bottle and thought I'd try expressed milk in one when he's old enough.

I suppose when they can sit upright? Though my cousin had one since 4 month old for the same reasons as yours and she seemed to manage quite ok.

I've never heard of any age they CANT use a beaker, I was reading the other day that they should be on a beaker by the time they start solids at 6 m/o but never heard at all that you cant use it before hand! I dont see any harm in trying tbh.

Sarah might be able to help, I know she tried a beaker with Kynon at an early age, not sure if she continued tho.

Good luck.

My siblings and I took a beaker from around 3 months as we wouldn't take a bottle and my mum wanted to start leaving us with other people by then or at least give her boobs some rest! Think Lou had a beaker from around 4 months for water but still had her milk from a bottle as that was her 'food' and I liked knowing she was getting it all iykwim?

Did you take it ok? Has your mum said you were ok being left? My mums looking after the baby on Saturday so we can go for dinner and Tyler will not take a bottle so I'm a bit worried.

I was shocked when i heard that now you aren't supposed to use beakers that LO needs to suck....mind the ones you used to get..sippicups..and they'd need to suck to release the flap & the juice would come out, meant they didn't spill everywhere. Well now they say not to use them. I was actually a bit pissed off. When your out in buggy LO used to be able to flap the cup about waving it around & nothing would come out....well not anymore.

p.s we have a tommee tippee one too, got it free off childsmile...a tooth program thing in scotland.

Yep we were all fine with it! She was actually the first one to give Lizzie her beaker too as I was worried, but nothing to worry about!
I found the type of beaker early on made a huge difference though - Lizzie could only use Morrisons own non-spill ones to begin with. They have a tube in the lid so the baby still has to 'suck' the liquid to get it, whereas the basic ones just kind of spill the drink into LO's mouth and Lizzie used to find it a bit too much. If I persevered she probs would've been fine though tbh :)

Little miss, posted at the same time as you and just read your post - did not know that! I would've really struggled without those ones early on....I still like them now for the 'no mess' factor!

This beaker says 4 months and we're nearly there. Tbh I'm desperate. We've tried 4 different types of bottle and a doidy cup. The plan is to leave mum with his preferred (using that term loosely) bottle and the beaker. Worst case scenario we'll only be down the road and come home. Kinda dreading it!

Can't really add any suggestions or advice as I have no idea!

Just thought id wish u good luck and I hope you find something that will work x

If your Mum's fairly confident then it'll probably all be absolutely fine and you'll wonder what you were ever worrying about :)
He'll pick up on it if she's nervous too x

She's fab with him and he adores her. Her youngest is 5 so she did the baby thing not that long a go. I think part of the issue is my OH giving him the bottles he's not confident, gets frustrated and ends up bringing the upset baby to me. Granted we haven't tried in a while tho. Maybe my mum will be fab!

Thanks Louize. It's been a battle since he was born. I've got tickets for a gig in September so would be gutted if I can't go because he won't eat!

Pinky did you try dream feeding a bottle?

I def wana get those ones from Morrisons becky. When we used the no spill cup it was like one of those things you thot...yayyy this is great & you'd go to your mums & get a normal crappy beaker (that would spill) & you'd think, thank god i've got my tommee tippee no spill. Grrrrrrr

Pinky have you tried those glass bottles...madela or something?

Keep trying with the beaker he might not take it at first, keep trying, like every cpl of hours or something, for a few days, its just unusual...give it to him & let him have a hold of it & explore it b4 u put anything in
