Hi Guys

Anyone else having real trouble getting out of bed or even up off the chair and even then limping around for a bit until your lower back sorts itself out?

Just come back from Wales staying in a static caravan...goodness that combined with bedsprings in your back...ouch!

These are the only symptoms I have at the moment apart from feeling down, can't drink and and have had to put my horse on loan due to not being able to ride(too risky) and money issues! The joys of pregnancy!

It's relaxin, the pregnancy hormone! Grrrr!!!! It relaxes your ligaments etc ready for birth. What I don't understand is why my pelvis hurts more when I'm lying down rather than when I'm standing up and my baby & weight is pressing down on it.

Everything thighs up and chest down kills ALL the time. Getting up and walking around aches my pelvis like hell, even putting clothes in the washing machine kills my lower back! Bending down is a hopeless spectacle as well as going up and down stairs. I'm getting fed up of it tbh and I'm only 23 weeks, I feel like a feckin invalid and I have a right to rant lol!

Hi again

Oooh a support belt? Anyone tried one with any luck?

Yes I too feel like my gran hobbling about! I am also having this curious urge to take up knitting...perhaps I am just turning into her!

X

I've had a bad back for weeks now. At this moment in time it's worse in the very centre of my spine and the pain is on both sides of it.

I don't thik I sit correctly at work either which probably isn't helping. When I get up out of bed or off a chair I'm hobbling like mad too!!

I only walked around the corner to the shop yesterday and on the way back I was in agony!

I ended up in agony with both my pregnancies before this and don't think anything is gonna be different with this one. I'm really badly affected by relaxin and you do need to be careful. I put my back out twice bending over the basin in a morning to have a wash!! I finished up with my back in spasm and unable to move for two days. I'm getting some discomfort already and I'm only 11+4

oh LOVELY, good old pregnancy hormones!! Do they have to be quite so efficient months before the birth :x

hmm the main problem im getting in my back is sciatica, sitting on a hard surface seems to hurt m,y back, and my backs sore as soon as i wake up, especially if i wake up on my back... it'll all b worth it

My back kills most of the time at the moment. This weekend it has been bad but everything has been hurting. I am only comfy stretched out on the bed. Sitting upright hurts as I feel everything needs to be stretched out so that my muscles etc aren't all cramped up. Warm baths do seem to help temporarily though and don't lift ANYTHING! That makes it ten times worse.

I saw the physio last week so maybe can pass on some advice.

Have been getting back pain around my lower back / pelvis (no pain in front of pelvis / public area thank goodness)

Basically what happens is that when you are walking around you are aggravating the pain because your pelvic joints rub against each other and become inflamed.

The reason you notice it more after sitting or lying down is because the inflammation has flared up while you're resting, although resting itself is beneficial. When you get up again it eases off, but you are starting the cycle all over again by moving around and the joints rubbing together.

Sitting and lying is the only way to break the cycle - walking will only inflame it.

I've been told to stop walking completely if possible, which is difficult as I have a 20 min walk to and from work - have had to find a car share or work from home.

Cycling is better than walking, but cycling uphill puts pressure on your pelvis so still avoid as much as possible.

Other don'ts are standing on one leg for any reason (sit down to put on trousers or shoes etc), lifting or doing anything unevenly with one side of your body.

There are exercises you can do (pelvic floors, all fours pulling your tummy in for 5 secs, cat stretches) but they'll have no effect if you continue to walk a lot.

Swimming helps, and try a cushion in the small of the back when sitting to relieve pain. Also in bed, try to support yourself with a pillow underneath your bump, between knees and under legs. Best position to sleep is "recovery"-type position on side with lots of pillows.

Been given a support belt for when I have to walk and I've found it really helpful.

The most helpful thing has been a week's hols in Italy lounging by the pool last week :D which has got rid of most of the pain and now I can concentrate on resting more and not letting it flare up again.

If you're really suffering then get a referral to the physio from your midwife - when you're pregnant you bypass the waiting lists so you can be seen within a week which is great as you can sometimes wait for months to see a physio normally - make the most of it and take care!

Months???!!! i was aware of relaxin when I was 5 WEEKS pregnant! :( :( :( :( I didn't have any sickness but ended up pulling something in my back by the arduous task of turning a piece of toast under the grill....

My midwife told me that these ligament pains should ease off by 24 weeks, is that another myth? Someone please say no lol

I seem to have gone from a fit active 29 year old to a 99 year old the way my back suffers from doing the most simple eveyday tasks- 'light' weeding in the garden for 20 minutes left me with agonising lower back pain which travelled up to the top of my back after a good night's rest! Bloody hormones!
