Hi,

I am now 15 week and for the past few days my lower back (only the left side) hurts a lot when I move after being sitting or laying for a bit. For example, it takes me 30 min to get home from work (I drive) and by the time I get home and get out of the car is very painful to walk.
I don't know if I can blame it on the pregnancy as is still to early for the baby to press against any nerves but I just wanted to check if anyone else has had this problem?

The pain feels like sciatica but without radiating to my leg, just above my bum cheek!

I will be checking this with my midwife next week if it's still causing me pain but until then, has anyone had something like this during early ish pregnancy?

Does sound like sciatica Hun. I have a disk problem and get sciatica when it flares up. Nerve pain is very distinctive. Worst when I get up from lying or sitting. Does it ease off gradually after a while of walking about? Hopefully your midwife will have an idea xx

does it definitely feel like nerve pain? I often get inflamed muscles around my sacroiliac joint just to the left and upwards of my left bum cheek. it got quite bad in my last pregnancy and it puts your pelvis out of whack which isnt helpful for birth. Its worse when getting up from seated , going upstairs, that kind of movement. After i stand it would take a while before the leg 'worked' properly

Hi guys, I have been to the doctor today as the pain as got a lot worse, cant barely move but its not recommended to stay still either so I have to keep forcing myself to stretch and walk every 30 min (even in work). The doctor said it can be that because my uterus is tilted backwards it is pressing on my sciatic nerve and causing this pain. She referred me to physio but it can take a few weeks before I have an appointment :(

I would see an osteo or chiro that has experience with pregnancy, in my experience they’re far more helpful than NHS physios. Hope you get some relief soon x

It does sound like it could be pelvic girdle pain - I have something similar on my right side....

Im seeing a chiropractor weekly x

I have sciatica again with this pregnancy and it's started 10 weeks earlier than before. At times I'm crippled too. It's an awful pain and I really sympathise. Physio helped a bit last time but might give acupuncture a go. Good luck with your but just know that I found this pain to be far worse than labour pain x

Hi guys, I couldnt stand the pain anymore so went to a chiropractor yesterday. It helped so much! I still have three more sessions but just with the first one I already feel much better. Apparently I had 5 knots on the side of my bum which were pressing on the nerve.. the pain has dropped significantly!

Great news! Glad it’s helped.

She didn’t do the acupuncture on the first session but she said she will on the next one (tomorrow). I really can’t wait to see her again, I feel like I have fallen in love because she reaaaaally made my back a lot less painful!

I had this around most of tri 2 as well but it went away and in tri 3 I've had very little back pain. A lot of it is to do with your muscles & ligaments changing shape around then, later back pain is more to do with baby's position
