Hey ladies...!

For the past 6-8 weeks Evie has been back-to-back and the MW suggested reading up on it because the labour can be pretty different! I've been looking up back labour etc but wanted to hear first hand of your experience if you had a back labour.

I look forward to hearing your stories!! (I want to be prepared, so hit me with it ladies!)

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but Hope was back to back, despite trying to turn her, i had a 38 hour labour. Try getting down on all fours for 10 mins a day to try and turn bubs, hugs

I only found out after Rudy was born that he had been back to back for the majority of the labour and turned just before being born. Obviously I was unaware that he was back to back, so I didn't know that it was any different from 'normal' labour. It hurt, but then all births hurt and having nothing to compare it too is probably the best thing. I did feel a lot of pressure in my back for most part of active labour. It wasn't a long labour really, the contractions didn't really hurt until around 5 and Rudy was born at 10.43, it only became intense at about 7pm.

Hope it all goes well with you and Evie turns, but you will be fine either way :D

Oooh I didn't know that turned them!! Great idea, going to try that.

Yeah, I mean, my MW was pretty honest (I asked for her to be as honest as possible!!) and she said your back takes the brunt of the pain and also that in some cases, it can be a constant pain and just increases with a contraction but that in a lot of cases there is no break between contractions because of the constant pain.

Also I've heard that contractions can be irregular and it can be difficult to get in certain positions while in labour...

I guess I just want to be prepared for a horrible labour  x

Its not horrible just more difficult. I got through it on just gas and air and pethadine and im a wuss with pain

Hayden was back to back and turned on the way out at the last minute- to be honest i didn't have any other labour to compare it to so to me it didn't seem like it was more difficult than it should be! the only thing that got to me was where he was pressing on a nerve i was getting bad burning pains down my two front thighs on every contraction- i kept saying why are my legs hurting so bad the babys in my tummy!! but the sensation down my legs took away from my stomach and back so in a way it was good-
Evie still has loads of time to turn so try not to panic and rememeber that you have no comparison so you won't know any different! it will be fine hun

Oliver was back to back and corkscrewed on the way out. Obviously I have nothing to compare it to, but it wasn't constant pain - in between the contractions I felt fine and I think the pain was mostly in my back, but I don't really remember! I didn't know he was back to back until about half way through, but I was only in labour for 3 and a half hours and I wouldn't say it was any more painful than I had expected.

I did have an urge to be on all fours during each contraction though, so once I got in the pool and had the freedom to move it was much better. While I was on the bed waiting for them to fill it the contractions were a lot more painful because I couldn't get into the position I wanted to be in and kept getting stuck leaning back against the pillows, which was agony - just listen to your body and get in whatever position it's telling you to be in if you can, because it will make a lot of difference.

But yes, spend some time on your hands and knees with your bum in the air, and try not to slouch!

I wouldnt worry ..pain gets to a point in labor where it cant get worse lol ..seed wanted to come out sideways .. she "eventually" turned in labor ..but it was weird I didnt get the urge to push as such ..they kept saying push with contractions ..but I sh*t you not there wasnt a break between contractions ..it was one long agonising one looool... but that also goes hand in hand with badly positioned babies I hear. ...whatever way you look at it it might just take a little longer and you might need assistance if bad but on the whole labor fkin hurts anyway.
LOL you know, if I was 20 weeks pregnant you'd have scared the heck out of me just then, but strangely enough I'm going to remember those words. If it's any easier than you describe, then excellent! But it doesn't sound like it could be any worse :rotfl: xx

uve not got a normal labour to compare it to so what ever u feel it will be normal to you !!!

i must admit tho , i didnt get the urge people talk about either , i was on the trip tho and thats what made my labour mega painfull and it comes on soooo quick ! all my pain was low down too , which made pushing into it hard !

my third was back to back and he was born within 2 hours of me getting contractions but it was my third child so maybe its different
hope Evie moves into a normal position for you hun

If back to back then rocking on all fours a few times a day is good for encouraging them to turn. Even cleaning the floor on all fours for an hour! But rock a few times a day at least to really have an effect. And keep doing it then.

Also make sure your posture is good. If you slouch or sit back on the sofa etc it encourages your baby to follow the curve of your spine and they do this back to back. Sitting straight and also keeping your hips above your knees when sitting, height wise is good for encouraging baby to face the right way.

Dannii...was just about to post this in this section as have been told today baby is back to back!!

Really hoping that he will flip, he's such a little wriggler anyway!!

I had the same mind frame as what people have said, nothing to compare it too, and it's just going to bloody hurt no matter what!

I kinda had a back to back labour - Faith wouldn't come out because she kept twisting and turning going from ROA to LOA to back to back every hour or so!!! That's why I had problems.

BUT I did have quite bad back ache when she was back to back and it was constant. I say quite bad because it wasn't as bad as a contraction and it was bareable, it just meant i wasn't pain free.

But babies definitely can turn.

What I found with labour is that we are more equipped to cope that we think. I got to 8cm without any pain relief and then just had gas and air and I had a problematic labour! Yes it hurt but it is so worth it that I don't care!

The urge to push will feel like you need the biggest poo of your life!!

Back to back makes contractions feel very close as its constant pain :?

GET BOUNCING ON YOUR BALL!!!

Logan was back to back and I had a 27 hour labour with him compared to 12 with my first.
At one point the back pain was worse than the contractions and was just constant.
Definately get on all fours now!

I dont think any of mine were back to back hun so not much help but I will say that I had permanent back pain through labours anyways! Expect the worst and you will be suprised! Its hurts like hell but after you will say "oh its not that bad" lol and have more hahaha

Thank you so much ladies!! It's great to hear all this so I can be a bit prepared (can you EVER be prepared for labour?!) lol.

Thank you  x

My friend Bexx had back to back labour - it wasn't much fun and when he came out in one go she had a REALLY bad tear because he was not well positioned!

DEFINITELY recommend you shift Evie using any means possible. Get on your bouncy ball and get on all fours on the floor!!!

Get on your ball girl and crawling around on your hands and knees!!

Ellie was b2b until the very late stages of labour when she decided to turn but I wasnt aware that she'd turned until afterwards, my labour was quite long and I was very slow to progress which they said was down to her being in a bad position. Labour is very painful, i cant imagine it being any more/less painful to be honest but i think the type of contractions vary depending on the babies position therefore the pain is different.

Good luck hun, you will be fine whatever happens! :D

i cant help sorry melissa was not back to back but i hope evie turns for u

normal labour is unimagineable pain during contractions, but the breaks in between are 100% pain-free so its bearable and it only took me 4 days to forget it and consider the idea of having another one! i *think* with b2b labours there are less breaks and the pain is in ur back rather than ur bump, which i'd imagine is harder to deal with coz ur not expecting it there

good luck either way im sure youll do fine x
