They are now telling me not only am i not allowed to have a water birth as im high risk but i cant use the birthing suite either even though it is practically in the room next to the delivery room i am allowed to use, there is no more emergency equiptment in the delivery room than there is in the suite so there is no genuine reason why i cant use it, i am so anrgy i dont want to have baby there now so am looking for an alternative, i thought they were meant to have inmproved since my 12 yr old son was born and yet im still expected to give birth on my back

That doesn't seem fair
I thought now they consider on your back to be the worst position to give birth in? Thats what I was told at ante natal class.
Surely they can't force you to do something you don't want?

well im now looking into buying some gas and air and staying at home with hubby.

I can see why you might feel like that, but if you are high risk is it not safer for you and baby to be in hospital?
xx

I would ask for firm reasons as to why they cant accomodate you in some way.. thats bollocks! I was told i couldnt have a waterbirth but the compromised and said i could labour in water.

Is there another hospital you could go to?

I dont think theres any ay to force you to give birth on your back, my midwife kept saying shall i get the stirrup thingsout for you, and i politely declined until i was 10cms when iapparently told her "look thanks but back off its not the bloody 1800s, im fine as i am " lol
Theeres gotta be some compromise there and i sure if they heard your alternative idea theyd come round !

Awww hun i am so sorry to hear this, why are they classing you as high risk? :(

awww hun, i kinda know how you feel im classed as high risk too so have no say in anything.

Sorry to hear you are so upset.   I think I should go and visit my hospital to see what I can expect

Awww hun    Can I ask why they consider you high risk??
I cant use the water or birth centre either as I have to have an epidural but Im ok with it! Im sorry they have annoyed you! Its just not fair!

Thats really unfair of them. They can't make you give birth on your back, its what you will be most comfortable with and its not them having the baby!

Im high risk because i already have 6 children and yet i have never had any problems not even a stitch, i am going to take it further as all my rights have been taken away from me, i will not give birth in a room on a bed on my back (unless of course i need an epidural), if they said i could labour in the birthing suite then move i would be happier and think about a compromise but they have said a firm no! Im also going to see if my bupa cover will do anything for me.
We are in the year 2008 where they can clone humans and perform all sorts of weird an wonderful things and yet i cant have my baby in a relaxed comfortable room :shakehead: what the hell is it coming too?? :shakehead:

 Just sneaking in and putting my two penny worth in, don't let them upset you - I spent the whole of my second labour standing even though they insisted on monitoring the baby I just stood up and held the pads on my belly - if you're happy standing (or whatever) I'm sure they can't stop you (never had any pain relief either was just left to it!). Number 3 labour was spent on all fours on the floor (no pain relief again) and he was delivered on the floor too - midwife was an angel that time! Worst labour was last one where I was encouraged to stay on the bed and have gas and air and I lost it, I was a complete nutter!! I hope you're feeling a little better and sort something out really soon! Take care.
xx
I'll creep out now cause I know I shouldn't be here but I just can't resist

Wow Hen i thought this was baby number 2 for you not your 7th, you learn something new everyday.

Hope your Bupa can help :D

Wot is a birthing suite ?
instead of a clinical room with a bed its a large room with cushions ans beanbags and lots of floormats etc to make it more natural and comfortable etc, it is right next to the nasty clinical room :wall:

ohhh my hospital didnt have one ???

mind u the time i was in and out wouldnt have mattered lol

Id have thought you would be lower risk if you've had several children without problems? Didnt people use to have their first baby in hospital in the olden days and the rest at home?

Thats absolute rubbish Hennaly and i would personally look at going to a different hospital to give birth. I had the choice of a couple when i first went to the docs.

I understand what you mean about the delivery rooms, i'm hoping i dont end up there either as they do seem so clinical. My midwife has already said i may have a bit of a fight on my hands when they see im under consultancy care.

Let us know what happens!

Oh hennally thats so bloody pedantic of them...

Dunno if you knew hun but i am also considered high risk cos of previous c-section and i had to argue quite a bit with the consultant to put forward my case for not wanting to be flat on my back hooked up to monitors! Stand your ground sweetheart and I really hope you can get them to compromise a little bit...   x x x

OMG thats not right!!  They cant say your high risk just because your having your 7th baby surely?!?! OMG Im so mad for you and I hope that either they change their mind (maybe it was just a b*tch of a MW??) or Bupa can help! That is so out of order!!! Fair enough if you had complications with the others but as you didnt I cant see why you cant possibly use the birthing suite or pool!?!?
