My little boy just won't eat :( he's always been a great eater but for the past few weeks he just refuses everything - won't even open his mouth. He generally eats breakfasts and will sometimes eat lunch by just right out refuses tea... Won't even open his mouth or sometimes won't close his mouth if I manage to get food in. I've tried all his favourites and I've tried letting him feed himself but he even refuses that.

Ideas? Advice?

Maybe try putting it infront of him when you know he is hungy and ignore him. If he eats it he will make a huge mess butt can be enough to get them started again. Making a big deal out of it or trying to force the issue tends to just make them dig their heals in. It wont hurt him to go for a while without solids either so you could just give it a rest for a few days before trying again.

Tried all thst. Tried finger food, trued, giving him a spoon, tried sitting back and leaving him to it, tried tipping it out so he can eat it with his fingers but he doesn't like to touch messy stuff, tried different times and foods and nothing seems to be working.

Just spoke to HV and she has recommended reducing his milk and I hsve to write down everything he eats for a week, but it diesnt stop me bring concerned. I'd put it down to teething if it wasn't that he will Happily munch on a breadstick or eat a yoghurt. I'm banning yoghurt until he's eating savory food.

we went through this for the last 6 weeks or so.. he's finally now starting to eat again. (what he fancies) Ive noticed, a lot of it was fussiness. x

LO was a great eater from the start but she went through a fussy phase. She went off food when she was ill with a cold and when she got better and started eating again she would only eat a very few foods. Eventually she started trying and eating other foods again. I kind of reccon they will eat what their body needs and if you just to keep offering they will come around eventually. We did decide not to give her any food with added sugar to start with and that seemed to work well for us.

Jaiden went through this phase and it was very frustrating. He went from eating anything to refusing almost everything! Even now he can be difficult. We found giving Jaiden something to hold (spoon, toy, his milk bottle lid ect) helped distract him and he would eat as long as he was fiddling with something.

I found pulling the highchair up to the table and putting foods on the table just within her reach was a good trick. She found it hard to resist. If I put the same food on her tray she would refuse it.

Try all self feed food on a plate and allow use of cutlery. At this age they start wanting to become independant and eat as you do.
