At the risk of sounding like a terrible mum, I'm considering moving my little one into his cot in his own room shortly.

He is currently 10 weeks old and sleeps from 10pm until 7 am. Due to an unfortunate company closure I have found myself made redundant just as I'd gone off on Maternity leave. I have since found a great job which I will start early May, so It'd be good if I could have him used to sleeping in his cot by then. What do you think?

I could afford to stay off work longer, but this is a very good opportunity, and my husband and I essentially need two salaries going forward.

He will cope fine
Its down to whether you are ready to or not x

We moved our son into his cot in his own room by 12 weeks purely because he'd outgrown his moses & crib and his sleep was disrupted because he was whacking himself on the sides. Yes, guidelines are 6 months but it was the best thing we ever did. Him & us get a much more settled sleep. My mum told me I was in my own room after about 4 days and I'm fine....as long as you feel ready & have a good monitor you'll be fine

We moved our son into his own room at 3 months. This is also when he started to sleep through.

To be honest, for all moving him helped him sleep better, we did still have nights we were up in the night with him for a long while to come. So if you're working full it is going to be tiring!!

Do sympathise with your situation though, I'm currently at risk of redundancy and find out next week just as my leave starts! There are other jobs on offer with the organisation so technically I'm safe, but none are suitable because of travelling etc. It will be me looking for a new job on mat leave soon!!

I moved Lucie into her room at 6 weeks as we just kept waking each other up. It was fine but we did have a video monitor so I could always see her x

As long as you have a sensor mat i wouldn't worry. We also didn't have a bumper and had this instead http://www.argos.co.uk/m/static/Product/partNumber/3994041.htm?CMPID=GS001&_$ja=cgid:18091972885%7Ctsid:59156%7Ccid:189942085%7Clid:96719984485%7Cnw:g%7Ccrid:65061496885%7Crnd:16571318255074561661%7Cdvc:m%7Cadp:1o1%7Cbku:1 for safety. Oh and we moved lo at 8 weeks x

We moved out son at 12 weeks best decision we ever made and haven't looked back since. We bought a sensor mat but it's each to their own but it was the best purchase I ever made.

Evie went in at 9 weeks and was much happier - hubby is a horrendous snorer! My sil two went straight into their own rooms from birth.

Keeping a baby in the same room as their mother until at least 6 months decreases the risk of SIDS. It's still unlikely, yes, but moving them makes it more likely, so personally I wouldn't do it under any circumstance.
